Quarters and Quarterlies

I'm looking forward to the next "quarter" of studies in our Sunday School class.
Though our church has changed the term "Sunday School" to "Small Churches",
I cling to the former because I value the concept of a group studying the Bible
in a systematic way
and growing together in knowledge of and faith in Jesus.
Yes, we still use a "quarterly" in our "class".
And just look at the Bible books we'll be studying!
I suppose I'm showing my age in clinging to this particular tradition --
Sunday School complete with quarterlies.
This is one I cannot easily walk away from; nor do I apologize for valuing it.

It Wasn't Too Cold

It wasn't too cold (see prior post), and late in the afternoon we embarked
on theChristmas Walk in an old neighborhood.
This activity has become a Christmas tradition for us over the years.
Inside and out, the "halls were decked" for the season.
At some point, I wearied of taking my gloves off to photograph the beauty
and just settled back to enjoy it...

Homes along the way (not on the official "walk) caught my eye--
sometimes for their simplicity; sometimes for their potential.
Luminaries lit the sidewalks of the featured homes.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night...

A SAD CELEBRATION

Because our Sunday is filled with church activities, we decided to celebrate Valentine's Day early.  We chose our favorite restaurant for the occasion.  A few weeks ago, we'd heard that this particular Casa D'Angelos was closing.  There are several in our city, so we'll still be able to enjoy their food (their house salad is particularly wonderful).  However, in our opinion, none of them had as fine a decor as this one on Fairfield Avenue.  Traditional and stately, it featured bookshelves filled with old books, walls covered with great art, tableclothes and cloth napkins, and some of the best wait staff we have encountered.  Even the bathrooms were beautiful!
Here is my husband looking over the menu - probably for the last time here...
...and this is an example of some of the art hanging on the walls.
Goodbye, Fairfield Casa.
