Sunday - Taking/Making Time

Take care that you do not use the day of rest only as a day for the public observance of divine worship.  It is especially in private personal communion that God can bless and sanctify you.  In the church, the understanding is kept active, and you have the ordinances of preaching, united prayer, and praise to keep you occupied.  But there we do not always know whether the heart is really dealing with God--is taking delight in Him.  This takes place in solitude.  Accustom yourself, then, to be alone with the Lord your God.  Not only speak to Him, but also let Him speak to you.  Let your heart be the temple in whose holy silence His voice is heard. Rest in God.  Then God will say of your heart, "This is my rest, here will I dwell."  (An Exciting New Life, Andrew Murray)

...from an interesting chapter in a classic and helpful book--this insight re. the Sabbath and our present day "Lord's Day"--the first day of the week!  We're studying this chapter in our Sunday School class this morning...

"The principle aim of the Sabbath is to make you holy,
as God is holy--this is His blessing, this His rest.
God wants you to be holy, filled with Himself and His holiness."
(Murray)

Taking time--MAKING time--to be holy!
Isaiah  58:13-14

  1. I LOVE my alone time with Him.... Isn't it amazing and WONDERFUL that He longs to find His own rest in the center of our hearts?

    Enjoy this day.....

  2. Wish I could find all the books in English and the book: Alone with Him sounds wonderful! I usually leave it up to my God everything I just can't handle and I feel secure He will resolve it for me. Thank you for sharing and for visiting dear Rebecca. The flooring in my house is marble, there are wonderful mines here in Ecuador and it's great to keep shiny and clean, i really love it. Have a terrific week and God bless sweet friend. FABBY

  3. This is good Rebecca. It's easy to feel like you're done, because you've done church on Sunday. The morning message should really be just the beginning. Something to meditate and pray about throughout the day... just me and the Lord.

    Blessings, Debbie

  4. Such a wonderful reminder! Spending time with God has been a constant goal and mainstay of my life in the last 10-15 years. I love to let Him "speak to me" and quietness is key. I fear for our society as even Christians are so over-saturated with outside media that time spent to hear His still, small voice is rare. Good reminder!

  5. We count on getting rest on Sunday. It's odd, how tired we are the next week if we don't "stop and plop." God sure knew what He was doing, asking us to take one day off to rest.

  6. Ms. Rebecca...thank you for stopping by and commenting and most of all for your prayers for my Mom. I HOPE that I can get back to visiting soon. Mom is in rehab right now and is still pretty tired.

  7. I usually spend my alone time with the Lord after my husband leaves for work and while my son is getting ready for school. BUT on Sundays, I don't take the time to do this! How horrible of me! Need to change that! I found your post on being locked out of your house incredible. I'm glad you had some place to wait! Our daughter locked me out of the house years ago. She locked the door from the garage into the laundry room on our way out to the bus stop. When I came back, I walked through the garage and tried to get into the house and couldn't. I didn't know what to do. My husband was gone for DAYS. So I went to my neighbor's house and he got a ladder and thankfully one of the screens on an upstairs bedroom window was loose and he was able to crawl in that way. I now keep a key hidden in the garage just in case this ever happens again. Thanks for your comment on my blog this morning!

  8. Hi Rebecca,
what a lovely and informative post. Love time alone with the Lord, it just refreshes me so very much. We so need to spend time just being still,
and then we are assured all the more that He is God as we hear from him.
It has been a good day, my sister-in-law and I just finished making some favors for the reception, and I have made some decision like
where to put the cake...finally!! lol
So I am a happy girl...............

It rained this morning and it our porch didn't leak, so that made me very happy because a few weeks ago
when we had so much rain we had an enormous leak, but the roof guy said it was probably a
saturation leak and when it dried out it probably would not leak again, cause it never
had before. So guess he was right!! PTL!! cause we are planning to use our porch during the reception, cause the weather is very nice in
    the evening now. Finally!

Hope you are well my friend,
    Good to hear from you,
    Love and Blessings, Nellie

Oh yea, like your pretty new background, very nice.

  9. I DO love Sundays! more than any other day it seems I have a chance to let the Word soak in throughout the day. Usually we are home resting unless there is a family gathering or holiday. Hubby goes upstairs for a nap as a rule and I get quality quiet time. It is so refreshing to be free of the distractions and busyness of the week. I definitely view this day as a blessing from God!
