I reached out, with youthful passion, for a lovely bauble,
and found a priceless gem.
This was the opening line of a eulogy I saw today--written by a husband for his wife. I'm in a very mellow mood. The words "melted" my heart! Having just prepared to lead a Bible study about priorities and finding it was directed primarily to women in their roles as wives and homemakers, I am instructed and challenged regarding my marriage.
Yes, even after 40 years of marriage and homemaking, I still need to be instructed, reminded and sometimes corrected.
I do have a priceless gem in my husband. For whatever time God gives us together, I want to honor and obey the Word of God in this matter (and all others).
Bid the older women similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble, so that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children, to be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kindhearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands, that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited). Titus 2:3-5, Amplified Bible
Thank you for this post. My husband's been driving me crazy, lately, but I love him so much, and God has really been speaking to my heart. I know I need to treat my husband more respectfully than I do, even (and especially!) when I'm annoyed. I know one of the best things I can do for my daughters is love their daddy through my words and actions. I know that I am responsible for me...that I should be nice even when I don't like what he says or how he says it. But it IS hard! I think it's so much easier to be nice to EVERYONE else. (And my husband will often say: "Why don't you talk to me like you talk to your friends?") Oh, I could write a novel on this topic. Thanks, again.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Rebecca! And something I've been thinking about so much lately. I know exactly how you feel, for I have a gem right here that I have taken for granted way too many times in my marriage. God Has Blessed me so much, and I don't treat His Gift to me with the respect and appreciation he so deserves.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this timely reminder!
Love and Prayers,
Eileen
Morning Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteA great post and a great reminder............for I have a great gem as well, and it is always a challenge to not forget that.......and to take them for granted. Life is so much better when we are in a constant appreciation mode with anyone,
but especially the dearest one to us!
Thanks for the reminder hon,
Love ya, Nellie
Words of wisdom to be sure. I think sometimes that we all forget how precious our husbands and marriages are. The past few weeks have once again opened my eyes as to how truly wonderful my husband is. I am blessed. Love Di ♥
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful post about your
ReplyDeletepriceless gem and a reminder that I
am sure all of us need to hear from
time to time.
Blessings~
Hi Rebecca! Thanks for the godly reminder...ouch! I was just a bit short tempered with the Hubs today!
ReplyDeleteRe your question: My old fashioned towels are a mixture of old ones and new ones and even some cute ones from "Le Dollar Tree"!
I am glad you realize how great it is to have a great partner. I have made it a commitment to not complain about my husband to anyone. I am blessed to have him.
ReplyDeleteI find the older Pappy and I get, the more I realize what a "priceless gem" he is to me!! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! and a wonderful reminder. It is all too easy to focus on the negatives in a marriage. We all need to be encouraged to focus on the blessings that the Lord gives us each day especially through our spouses.
