Sugar Cream Pies and Other Surprises!

I shouldn't get excited until the pies are cut and tasted...but even THIS much was an achievement for me. It happened because our Bible study group is going to have a "finished-our-book" party tomorrow evening. I double booked myself and will be at the lake, but one of the gals requested sugar cream pie, so I volunteered. Since I'm also responsible for meals at the lake, I baked two.

I also made barbecue beef in the crock pot. It slow-cooked overnight. I kept waking up during the night, nudged by the delicious scent wafting upstairs from the kitchen! Yesterday I baked some whole wheat zucchini muffins, hard boiled some eggs, made Asian cabbage slaw, and whipped up my sister-in-law's recipe of chicken/rice salad. I don't remember being this busy in the kitchen in a l-o-n-g time. And for the most part, I actually enjoyed it.

  2. Marcy, I guess that will have to go with my NEW blog! If the sugar cream pie is good, I'll pass it on. It was made with milk, whipping cream, and NO eggs. I got it off the 'net.

  4. Denise, do you cook for hire?? :) Maybe I could employ you for my "serious" cooking!

Wanda, I hope you found something healthy to eat and are no longer hungry. I am looking forward to lake time. This is a huge treat for me.

  6. Everything sounds wonderful, Rebecca, and if the pies taste as good as they look everyone will be very happy!
I hope you have a great time at the lake!

I think you should do whatever you feel like, Rebecca, on any given day.

Some days I don't have the time to reply and some days I do, I think people understand. If I reply to one I try to reply to all, but some days that's just not possible.

    Take care.
    Enjoy!

  11. Hi, What a treat your bible study group has waiting for them...yum...! I also like the stain on your porch. As for comments...it is what is easiest for you. I like either way. It may take awhile for some followers to get use to it. I am so pleased to say i haven't had any more trouble commenting on your blog. Dee

  12. I'm jealous of your fun day in the kitchen. Not everyone understands that! I'll be anxious to hear the reviews on your pies. I LOVE baking pies -- I just can't "afford" to do it too often, calorie-wise! I've never heard of sugar cream pie...but it sounds and looks wonderful!

  13. Rebecca, I had sugar pie for the first time ever when I was home, it was a piece of heaven. Yours look so good, makes me want to bake one but alas being a diabetic I can only treat myself with something like this once a year. Really enjoy being back and able to enjoy your wonderful post again my friend. I wish you and your family a wonderful weekend....:-) Hugs
