Painting the Porch in time for the Parade

Our front porch faces a heavily traveled state route. We've been staining the porch with a dark wood stain--much like it was when we inherited it 6 summers ago. But a few weeks ago, my husband stained the rails and posts white. What a change!

Today he began painting the floor. We selected a color to match the siding on the house. I'm very excited to see the finished product. Saturday morning neighbors and members of our church family will join us for "Open Porch" as we watch the Harlan Day parade. It's an annual event and "our crowd" grows a little each year. It will be such fun to host the festivities from our newly decorated porch.

  1. It looks nice!! Such a small thing like a new coat of paint, can really make a huge difference. One of these days, I'm gonna get my living room painted. :o)

  7. It brings back memories of me painting our porch last summer! I love parades Rebecca. No one else in my family likes them but they go along with me anyway! I was a deprived child. I never got to see a parade until a few years ago! So now I can't get enough. I would sit and watch with you if I were there!

  9. I've passed on all your enthusiastic comments to my deserving husband. He'll probably put a second coat on it, but this one needs to cure for 24 hours. Yes, there WILL be refreshments, and YES, you all are welcome. I can't think of a better way to enjoy the parade than with friends.

  11. Rebecca, I LOVE the location of your home. What fun to be along the Harlan parade route! The porch looks great! It is fun to have an incentive to do projects. We do most of our home/lawn improvements before guests come. They don't notice because they did not see the before but it if fun for us to have a reason. I know, I know, we shouldn't need a reason. We are just so human! Anyhow, enjoy the parade from your lovely perch er porch.

And there is nothing like a fresh coat of paint to give a porch a new lease of life!

    Enjoy the parade!
