"The Gate of the Year"

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.'
'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.'
And he replied, 'Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way!'
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way!'

Living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.
Moment by moment I’m kept in His love;
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.
2. Never a trial that He is not there,
Never a burden that He doth not bear,
Never a sorrow that He doth not share,
Moment by moment, I’m under His care.
3. Never a heartache, and never a groan,
Never a teardrop, and never a moan;
Never a danger but there on the throne,
Moment by moment He thinks of His own.
4. Never a weakness that He doth not feel,
Never a sickness that He cannot heal;
Moment by moment, in woe or in weal,
Jesus my Savior abides with me still.

These are just a few of the thoughts that have crossed my path or entered my mind
over the past few days.
As I wrote to a friend on Facebook this morning:
...if there's one thing I'm learning through my "light and momentary afflictions",
it is to live in the present moment w/o anxiety re. tomorrow.
(I'm well aware that I'll see if I've REALLY learned it when those
light and momentary afflictions are lifted or replaced by others.)

"Momenting" ... now there's a word I could hijack! What a lovely post, friend. Looks like we're both eager to walk out the new days ahead of us.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

I really enjoyed 'The Gate of the Year.' I've never seen it before. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't either, Mary. I found it while "surfing" (and I'm sorry to say that in my haste, I cut and pasted and forgot where it came from).
DeleteIndeed... moment by moment. Even so, come Lord Jesus and 2015!
ReplyDeletePanicking a bit here since I can't seem to leave comments consistently on your blog w/o a google plus profile (and I don't want to create one)! And my email to you came back undeliverable.
DeleteMoment by moment...the only way to live. May you continue to have grace for the moment...
ReplyDeleteThank You Rebecca: I'm living in the moment too!

Never a trial that He is not there.......and yes, sometimes a day seems too much, but moment by moment works.
