Think before you "Like" and "Share"

With  26,606 likes and 14,746 talking about this, who WOULDN'T be tempted to jump on the bandwagon?!?  If you're on facebook, you know what I mean.

Friends!  Before you hit the "like" and "share" buttons, do a little research, will ya?!

As inspirational/humorous/interesting as some of the stuff that crosses my path is, I'm increasingly wary of their sources.  Some of the information is downright false--as in inaccurate.  Untrue!  Some of the material is seductive and deceptive. And while it appeals to SOMEthing in us, too many times it is our "flesh" or lower nature!

I tracked one of the items shared on my facebook wall by a Christian yesterday back to its source where the originator was enthusiastically described THIS way:

"I need the world to know that T*** K*** is one helluva gifted psychic intuitive. Wow. I had no idea, ...! Her gifts are profoundly intuitive and cut through to that which is most essential and in need of healing and transforming. Her delivery is compassionate and at times, really freakin’ funny! Humor and mirth are so important for carrying difficult truths up from the depths and into the light..."

and another raved:
"I feel fortunate to have experienced a Shamanic clearing that T*** facilitated. Her profound awareness of stuck karmic energy in my chakras, and her visualizations that helped me find my wholeness again were profoundly healing."

REALLY?!?

Ken Silva expresses my concern better than I can HERE saying that if the "...content does not agree with Scripture and is outside of the sphere of material that God has revealed in the Bible, the spiritual source of the message is not God’s Spirit. We live in the time of great deception and apostasy. It is a time when the Biblical tools for discernment are needed more than ever. We need to take these objective tools and apply them to what we hear being taught in God’s name. Each of us might be shocked to find out that we have been listening to spirits and not the Spirit of God. We must run to the gospel and begin building our houses on the rock."

Silva says that people rarely ask, “Is it true?” but ask instead, “Does it work for me?”.
We can, we MUST do better than this, my friends!

Paul, in 2 Timothy 3, tell us to have nothing to do with such people--and I would add with such sites! "They are the kind who work their way into people's homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires...always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of truth."

Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.
(Jesus to the Father for us, from John 17: 17, Amplified Bible)

  1. Very relevant advice . . . Satan slips in before we know it IF we are not alert to his schemes!

  2. We must stay sober, stay vigilant. Thanks for this timely heads up, Rebecca.

  3. Good point friend! We always have to remember where the TRUTH is always found...God's Word. Love that verse in John 17:17.

  4. Yes, this is good, solid advice. I agree with the import of your words, Rebecca. I am rather cautious about the sites I "like" on FB, and never click "share", and I also do not click "like" on posts that have been "shared." It makes my own status and updates as original as possible. Thanks for this post, dear friend.

  5. Great post Rebecca. I'm not a FB member, something about the place bothers me.

  6. I have also noticed this. Sometimes I think those who "do" Facebook from a hand held device, especially a phone, can't see what the source is. Some of the things I have seen shared by many of my VERY conservative friends and family have nasty language in the name of the source the quote comes from.
Thanks for the reminder to be diligent!

  7. Good word...and yes discernment is needed today...and lining up with the true Word of God

  8. This is a great post! I think that in an effort to receive validation (as in a desire to be a part of the 47638 other people liking something) people are very slow to think before they click that like button. I have seen people "like" things before that truly were not anything to like. Maybe they mean they sympathize or agree but it looks so weird to me. :) I don't think very much discernment goes on on Facebook. :)

I am doing well, I just haven't been blogging much lately. :)

I would like to add you on my new FB account so as to keep in touch better, would you be averse to that or like that?:)

    God bless!

  9. Such good points you are raising here! Too much carelessness...too much at stake!

  10. Thank you for the excellent admonition. I am finding the same issue, what a shame. I enjoy your blog and insight!

  11. Amen and Amen Rebecca,
If there was ever a time we needed discernment and wisdom more,
it is in our world today, for sure! Very good post of warning,
makes me think of the story of Saul going to the witch Or medium of Endor. Folks who think it is no big deal would do well to Read the story in 1 Samuel chapter 28 and 31, and see how things turned out for Saul. He paid a heavy price for his disobedience to God.

Hope you have a great weekend.
    Blessings, Nellie

  12. I do not like the share's..I agree that they are and can be deceiving.

  13. So true. I've been concerned about the posts who are supposed to be funny yet lean towards the suggestive. We can become desensitized like you mentioned about Heaven and Hell in the same way. I heard someone say the other day that they won't mind hell because most of their friends would be there and my heart ached.

  14. I followed the link from a comment you made on Coffee, Tea, Books and Me and really appreciated this post. It's a very good reminder.

I used to be very careful about hitting "Like" or "Share" on Facebook, but have become a little lax.

The very same reasoning holds true on Pinterest. I try to never repin something if I don't search back on the origin or know something about the boards of the original pinner. There's some bad stuff and some bad religion on Pinterest and I don't want to point someone into a path of temptation, no matter how beautiful (and innocuous) the photo itself is.
