Dessert or Not

A friend of mine posted this prayer a few days ago on facebook
exactly as her son, Owen, prayed it:

Jesus, thank you for this day.
Thank you for this wonderful food.
I don’t know if I will get dessert or not.
Amen.

"...and a little child will lead them" (Isaiah 11:6)

We DON'T know if we'll get dessert or not!
(And we forget that dessert is not always good for us!)
It is enough to thank Jesus for what we have
and whatEVER lies ahead...
and trustingly leave the "dessert" up to Him.

  1. Morning Rebecca,
That is darling...........children are just so neat and so profound sometimes in what they say.
when my daughter was really young she used to say some jaw dropping things at times, and hubby and I would just look at each other in amazement!
and what a wonderful point it made, and I think if we are more and more thankful for what we have the lord sees to it that we get more and more dessert!! lol Course, that is all up to Him!
Thanks for coming by and for your sweet comments as always.
Just so Ya know our family has not always had these great times we are experiencing in these last years, cause I am a first generation christian and my husband sort of was as his parents didn't get serious with the Lord until he was older, but then backslide. We had many difficult years, about 25 or more, of family problems with our families of origin, that we had to sojourn through, and now they have all gone home to be with the Lord, most of them coming to Jesus at the very end, and we are looking forward to seeing them in heaven where all our relationships will be like they could have been here, but only perfect.............of course,
So we feel like these wonderful gifts of having our children nearby to enjoy is like the Lord is returning unto us the days that the locust had
stolen.............so we feel so overjoyed and blessed and grateful for the family life we now get to enjoy that it just oozes out of me and I can't help myself............lol

Have a great day hon, and Happy St. Patricks day
    Love and Irish Blessings, Nellie

  5. <> That reminds of the e-story about the lady laid to rest with a fork in her hand as "there's more to come!"

  6. So sweet. I love how you find the spiritual application... I have to admit that sometimes I get frustrated when God doesn't give me my dessert. :) Good thing I trust Him.

    Blessings, Debbie

    1. I know what you mean, Debbie. "The world" tells us that we DESERVE our dessert...." and it's easy to think we do.

  7. Rebecca, this is a gem! Oh, yes...thank you, Lord, whether we get dessert or not! Oh how I pray for that to be my attitude!

I also want to tell you how much it blessed me to hear you tell of playing "Wonderful, Merciful Savior" on the piano as the tears rolled down your face. I don't play the piano, but the tears flow as I sing it. And I love the line that you quoted...Who would have thought that a Lamb could rescue the souls of men?
