Remedies?

 So far...
 nothing works.
The itching is intense.  The rash is ugly.
I didn't go to the doctor.
I got the shot for the first bout of poison ivy of my summer
and didn't think it did much good.
But I think I've tried just about everything else--
except for bleach.
It kind of makes me think about how "mankind" has dealt with
the undeniable sin issue--
trying to compensate with good works,
attempting to break old habits,
repressing or aggressing,
sacrificing or  reforming
with little progress and no actual success.
I've given up on the poison ivy situation.
Thankfully, God didn't give up on the SIN situation!
"This is love: not that we have loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins."
(I John 4:10)
"(H)e saved us, but not because of anything we had done to gain his approval.
Instead, because of his mercy he saved us through the washing
in which the Holy Spirit gives us new birth and renewal."
(Titus 3:5)

  1. I am so sorry nothing has worked for that
nasty poison ivy. I am so eternally glad
that the blood of Jesus has worked and
will continue to work on the problem of
    sin.
    Hugs & Blessings~

  2. Great post. I love Jesus. He is the healer of my soul. I know bleach works on poison ivy. It burns like the dickens. Hope you get some comfort.

  3. I feel so bad for you! I understand that you are feeling miserable!! How long does it take to run its course? I hope that you are getting close to the end.

I am wondering about your bee stings. I am wondering if they were honey bees with stingers or something that looked bee-like i.e. yellow jackets or wasps? At our beekeeping meeting on Saturday night, our speaker spoke on bee venom therapy. It sounded absurd. The woman had a map of the body where to get the bee stings for various ailments and a book with more information. I was shocked at how many of our beekeepers subscribe to it and gave testimony to healing via bee stings! That made me think of you. It would be great if you got some benefit to your knee aches because of your random stings. I doubt if that happened.

  5. I've been thinking about you and this situation so much, Rebecca. Poison Ivy on top of shingles! This is just too much, your poor skin.
Well, I'm going to give a suggestion ~ have you tried Aveeno baths? I remember putting that powder in the kids baths when they had chicken pox and they said it was the only thing that gave them any relief. Some of the powder wouldn't melt in and I took it and put it right on the sore spots and sort of pat them with the paste. I remember my youngest son saying over and over again with each pat, "Thank you, thank you, thank you..."
Also I was stung earlier this summer by a hornet and I used some of Jayden's 'After Bite For Kids' and it was wonderful! No after effects like I usually suffer from stings!
And Brenda is right about the bee venom therapy, my cousin who has MS tried that therapy for years, it did give her some relief for awhile, but unfortunately her disease has progressed and she is now bed-ridden, but she feels it did help her for awhile.
    'Hope you get relief soon.
    Love and Prayers,
    Eileen

  7. Steroids are awful but they are the only thing that clears my rash before I go insane. Mine will hang on for weeks and I just can't deal with that. I also have a tube of prescription cortisone which seemed to help as well.
Oh Rebecca, I am so sorry. I know what you are going through. I've had it twice this year and last! Good Luck, I hope it clears soon.
    Love Di ♥

  12. As a fellow sufferer of poison (ivy and oak)....I can sympathize, sympathize, sympathize with you. Only one who has suffered through this AWFUL poison knows what you are going through. Do know that it will abate (in time...) It seems to take forever....and will flare up several times as it is healing....but know that there is a light at the end of that tunnel. This will pass. Yes, it will.
P.S. Don't put too much "stuff" on your skin as you wait for the rash to heal....some of these 'healing' things aren't good for you...just have to keep it as dry as possible (Caladryl is the best for me)....and stop that itching (Benadryl or generic) until the skin heals. Take care.
    Love,
    Jackie
