You Asked For It

Fireworks after last Monday night's ballgame

In my last post (the one with the Peach Salad recipe in it), I mentioned the book we were studying: Lies Women Believe: and the Truth that Sets Them Free. Our chapter yesterday was about the lies that women believe about themselves. A few of you asked about the content. Here are the lies covered in the chapter:

I'm not worth anything.
I need to learn to love myself.
I can't help the way I am.
I have my rights.
Physical beauty matters more than inner beauty.
I should not have to live with unfulfilled longings.

Remember. This is just the chapter about lies some of us believe about ourselves! The best part of each chapter is the truth that Nancy Leigh DeMoss highlights from the Word of God. She makes a strong point that what we SAY we believe is not always what we REALLY believe--that in fact, the way we act is the true indicator of what we REALLY believe. Hmmmmmmm.

Personally, I think the book is a great one for a group study or to read and ponder individually. The "lie" I'm working on? "I can't help the way I am." The truth? "I am a child of God. I can choose to obey him. I am responsible for my own choices. I can be changed through the power of God's Spirit."

God's Truth is a little like fireworks...

powerful, distinct, beautiful, awe-inspiring, attention-getting, riveting.
It absolutely SHATTERS the darkness.

I love your new look! Unfortunately, until I have the cataract surgery, I'm having difficulty reading... my favorite pasttime, too, so I'm not doing a Bible study. I'm scheduled for Sept. 14th, BTW. Hugs to you Rebecca.

Those issues are ones that we do believe because we have been told those things by our culture from the time we were born!

I have this book - I think I need to read through it again!

Just picked up the book from the library and hope to get into it soon! My oldest daughter when through it as a bible study and loved it. I'm sure I will too! I have only ever heard good things about this study!

Sounds like some heavy duty material! I feel sorry for young women today. The expectations to be beautiful, pencil thin, sexy, career oriented while keeping a perfect house, etc. are too much! So glad that we are accepted in the Beloved!

I think the lies we tell ourselves can be considered the "weights" that we need to throw off and believe the ultimate TRUTH!!! Great words to ponder this morning, my friend!

Oh the fireworks remind me of that video that went with the song, light up the sky and show that you are with us...which my little one loves.

I have heard of this book and followed another site as she taught through it...I can see I need to learn more. I have a friend going through a co-dependent course and some of the lies she is getting rid of are stated right here in your post.

Thanks for sharing...I too need to let go of too many lies....part of a blog post I have ready for tomorrow.

I have learned that the older I get the stronger, emotionally I have become. Life lessons have taught me that. I can say that I actually admire myself anymore!!
