First We Study; Then We Eat

Grandmother's Salad Bowl
I took Peach Salad to our Ladies' Bible Study this morning.  I served it in my grandmother's salad bowl.  It was a huge hit!  I got the recipe on the internet.  It was simply:
Spinach
1/4-1/2 cup chopped pecans (you can roast them; I didn't)
3.5 ounces of goat cheese
Fresh peaches (I sliced 4 of them)

Toss the above ingredients together with:
Poppy Seed Dressing
1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup of sugar  (recipe calls for 3/4 cup but I only used  1/2 cup  and it was fine)
2 tsp. dried minced onions
(recipe called for 1/2 red onion coarsely chopped since I didn't have red onion I improvised)
1/2 tsp. dried mustard powder (I have used 1 Tbs. regular mustard)
1 /4 tsp. of salt
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1 tsp. of poppy seeds
Place vinegar, sugar, onion, mustard and salt into a blender.  Cover and puree until smooth.  Add in the vegetable oil and blend till it is creamy, then stir in the poppy seeds.

A friend gave me a bag of fresh peaches.  Yum!
We're studying Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free, by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.  This week we looked at the lies we (women) often believe about ourselves.  After prayer time and the study, we enjoy a meal together.  I love these times I spend with my sisters!

Are you currently in a Bible study? What are you studying?

  1. Oh yum!
I've been looking for fresh peaches. It is that time of year that my mouth starts to drool just thinking of peaches.
I do so want to try that recipe--and my peach cobbler--and peach coffee cake--and unfortunately, I should be eating only salmon and celery because that HS reunion is coming and I committed.

  3. Hi Rebecca,
That salad really sounds delightful. I have a recipe for cran/raspberry chicken salad and use the poppy seed dressing too. I have made it with peaches too, and it is great, so I am sure it must have been a huge hit! I however, have never tried goat cheese, I always use shredded mozzarella, until I found shredded parmesan cheese, that was even better. So is goat cheese a strong or mild cheese??? If it is mild I might like it.............

I will post the Chicken Salad recipe next Tuesday if possible. Know you will enjoy it.

I'll pray for your fellow that is about to lose his wife as well. So sad!
Our fellow took his wife a picnic lunch yesterday where she works to have lunch with her, but had no idea how she would take it,
since she has been out of the house 2 months now and he was a wreck, poor guy! Altho, she didn't act thrilled in the very beginning they did have
a nice lunch, but they just talked about other things beside their relationship...........
I was just so happy she wasn't nasty to him, cause I was afraid of that, so we were praying like crazy..........so happy to hear the results, so just hoping she will come to her senses. Cause they have so much going for them,
it is really crazy. I really think she is just
    unhappy with herself.

You have a great weekend my friend,
    Blessings, Nellie

Love your new blog background, very pretty!

  4. Not currently in a study, but always studying just the same. Right now it's about grace. Reading Joseph Prince's book, "Destined to Reign." It's marvelous. Interested in what lies we women believe about ourselves. Can you elaborate in future posts?
    Blessings...

  6. Oh this looks so good! I love fruit in my salad. I haven't read Nancy's book yet but I have read A Place of Quiet Rest. I need to get it out and read it again.

So happy you have your sisters to study and fellowship with.

  8. This sounds delicious. Love the fact that you improvise, too. Being from GA and having the fresh peaches right now, I'm gonna give this one a try.
We have been in a Revelation study. It was very intense...but a wonderful study.
    Thank you for the recipe.
    Love,
    J.

  10. I tried going to one recently, it was about women in the bible but I just felt uncomfortable there. There wasn't much interaction between the ladies, everyone was just too quite for me.
So I stopped going. Your salad sounds very good even though I don't care for peaches.
    Your class sounds very interesting.
    Love Di ♥

  12. I'm currently working through (on my own) Nancy Douglas's "Draw Me Near." Mid-September, I'm starting a small ladies' study at our church using Alicia Chole's "Choices: to be or not to be a woman of God." I'm really looking forward to this one and to being with a small group of women again.
