Serendipity

Someone has defined serendipity as  finding something nice while looking for something else.  While scouring our house (closets, drawers, trunks, shelves) for a box of children's musical rhythm instruments to use in an upcoming Christmas program, I found THIS!  Just right for our "new" table for the next couple of months!  I'd totally forgotten that I had it.

Along with the table runner were these two plastic pumpkins.  I placed them on our (artificial) mantel beside the ceramic pumpkin I made last year.
Give us this day our daily bread...

Who KNOWS what other serendipities I might experience before I find what I'm looking for?!  Have YOU had any serendipities lately?  (Seems to be happening to me more and more the older I get.  Hmmmmmmm.....)

"His compassions never fail.  They are new EVERY morning..."
Lamentations 3:22-23

  1. That's a great table runner! My serendipity was finding a purse I really like for just $8 at a resale shop.

  2. I remember reading about it - how you didn't need to dip nearly so deep into your "new purse fund"!

  4. I don't know if this falls under 'serendipity'... I was looking for a break from the many 'things' I HAVE to do, and I got a break -- a couple in my leg -- so now I can't do anything... I keep telling myself that God is trying to teach me humility -- by making me let others help-- and patience with myself, but I'm struggling...

  5. Karie, I'm preparing to speak at a ladies' event at Central Church later this month. Topic? Simplicity! He's teaching me, too--so far not in the hard way you are having to learn. Is your leg "on schedule as far as the healing goes? I can't imagine the challenges you face with job, babies, etc.

  6. What a beautiful table runner Rebecca! It completely brings fall and all its wonderful colors to mind!
I know I've had examples of serendipity as well but of course I can't think of the at the moment!:)
Well, this isn't really a material one but this morning when I was praying (and worrying as well I'm afraid) over our job situations because of moving, I opened the Bible and began reading Psalm 16 and the verse "Lord, my allotted portion and my cup, you have made my destiny secure." jumped out at me. We still don't know what will happen with the jobs but I felt that was a rather serendipitous reminder that God has it under control.

  7. Colleen, That is definitely "serendipitous"! And the "spiritual" seredipities are SO much better than the "material" ones (if they can actually be separated....)

  9. I love the table runner because it reminds
me of one my mother had when I was a little
girl. Sweet memories. I am also loving the
white pumpkins I'm seeing everywhere. I feel
terrible about your friend Karie though. :(
    Get well soon, Karie.

  12. Yep! I do understand "serendipities"! And I agree with you that I'm experiencing them more and more - or maybe I just can't remember if they happened earlier in my life!!!
