| My Blogger Friend |
Are you like me? Do you find yourself in conversation referring to your "friend" and then adding "BLOGGING friend" (as though this is something you need to explain)?
I've been trying to come up with a new word to use for blog friends. I'd REALLY like to be the one to invent it and see it adopted blog-wide! Wouldn't that be fun? However, coming up with it has not been easy. So far I've come up with words like bliend, flog, and frieg... Obviously none of these are going to work.
Maybe YOU have an idea?
First of all I have to say hat you are so lucky! I would love to meet any of my blog friends! I think that someday I will! And I do think of you as my friend. When I talk to my husband I will say my friend Rebecca in Indiana or my friend Bernie in Canada. He knows who I mean. I think we should just refer to each other as friends, after all many of us have friends that live far away. If anyone can come up with a new word for it, it would be you Rebecca. I thought of CyberPal but that sounds a bit too futuristic! Love Di ♥
ReplyDeleteDi, I DO think of you as my friend, too. And my husband has figured out that I have blog friends--but I get some blank stares sometimes when I'm in other conversations...and I feel a need to explain. (Maybe that's MY problem... Maybe I DON'T need to explain.)
ReplyDeleteAnd honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we meet one day. Maybe when I come to the Sculpture Gardens!
I gave reports to my husband on answered prayer around my blog world, about a death in my blog world and others fighting cancer in my blog world. I then said, it really is a modern day pen pal, except faster. I had a pen pal when I was in school in Denmark.

aw Rebecca! I just saw this! And I am super excited too! I already know WE are friends with lots in common, but I also have a feeling our hubbys will hit it off too. Just the fact they are willing to tag along is special, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm talking to someone "outside" the blogosphere, I usually say "one of my blogger friends..." but I'm like you, a real definitive word would be nice. I bet you COULD find a word that will catch on globally! WOW!
Off to do my day now...hubby needs to work at home today, so I need to get the grandkids OUT of here! LOL...
Wonderful thoughts, Rebecca. I find myself saying to others, "the person whose blog I follow," on a regular basis. That seems really business-like and wordy. But then, I'm wordy! I would love to have more blog friends. I look so forward hearing from my followers and when I receive comments, it makes my day! Isn't that something how a little connection can mean so much? I think it's similar to what Janette said about pen pals. I always had many and got such a kick out of going to the mailbox and finding a letter! Great thoughts! How about "blender,"-a combination of "blogger," and "friend"? Ha, ha!

I just returned from a "blog friend" get together in Idaho. It was such a wonderful fellowship, and makes me want to encourage meeting Blog Bud's whenever possible!
The relationships I've formed online, many have become off line friendships and I treasure all (on and off line) the connections GOD has permitted.
ReplyDeleteI see your point on a new name as I often say, my blog friend or my online friend and once we meet I say, my IRL (in real life friend) or my on-offline friend.

What fun to meet and greet face to face. We learn to know each other in an intimate way when we read what people write. I wonder if we are better listeners when we read than when we visit over a luncheon. I still like the luncheons though. :)

ReplyDeleteDid I just read "Blog-Buds"??? Pat might have it here!!! I'm visualizing friendships blossoming like flower buds!!!! So the phrase should also come with a logo! LOL!
ReplyDeleteJacque, I SAW that "Blog-Buds" and kind of liked it. It seemed a little more casual than I first had in mind. But when you put it in context of blossoming like flower buds, it might work!

He knows them now....I don't have to stop and explain.. :))))...I would love to meet all of my blogging friends. I don't know if I ever will...but that would be wonderful to me. I never expected to develop friendships when I began blogging but I have. One very dear one that lives in Georgia. We share our hearts, troubles, and encourage and pray for one another. I love her and have never met her. Amazing :) My whole family knows who I am talking about when I mention her name.
