Busy Hands are Happy Hands

I purchased this carved hand at my favorite thrift store this week. After a good cleaning, my husband applied a semi-gloss finish to it. The shape is delicate and beautiful to me. When I look at it, it reminds me of Proverbs 31's description of the wife of noble character. "She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her HAND she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her FINGERS. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her HANDS to the needy."

Early this morning my sister came to use my sewing machine to stitch up a curtain for her daughter's dorm room closet. It was fun to work together. The hand sat on the top of the coffee table near the ironing board. My busy hands WERE happy hands!

  1. What a neat find and a great reminder of Proverbs 31. I wanted to stop by and let you know you were a winner on my blog. I am hoping your husband will be able to put the business cards to good use in spreading his news about Rescued and Restored.

  2. Hi Rebecca,
I know that proverb and it may sound strange but it makes me feel kind of bad anymore because I can't do all of the things around here that I used too! I always feel guilty about it but the arthritis just keeps holding me back! I love that hand and what your husband did with it. It is very graceful looking! Love Di

  3. Nice post!
But this is how superficial I am, I was too distracted by your beautiful 'things' at first to pay attention to the words!
Okay, let me first address the message! Beautiful! And it is true, it does feel good to be busy and helpful/productive! A nice sense of peace.

Okay, now onto the 'fluff' that helps make life even nicer ~ I love it all! I love the hand, I love the little table it's sitting on, I love the wire basket, and I absolutely LOVE the two-seater metal piece (love seat? glider?) behind it and the cushions too! And I'm loving the porch floor it's sitting on, makes me want to be there!
Sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me, but that's what my eye gets drawn to all the time! But then, I promise, I did go back and concentrate on the purpose of your post!
    All the best,
    Eileen

  5. Diana, It's not all that you used to do....it's what you can do now. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are, with all your heart :)

  6. Oh I love this hand and I have a pair very similar that were given to me from a very beautiful friend. I love what it stands for and I like Diana suffer with arthritis and cannot do like I use too, I am really happy enjoying what I can do and am so thankful that I am able to do what I can. No guilt here as I know there are so many others worse off than me but yesterday couldn't for the life of me think who they were. Thank you for reminding me that limitations can be a blessing as well.
    Have a great weekend........:-) Hugs

  7. I would have snatched that hand up myself..i like the proverbs you put with it. The Lord has been speaking to me for awhile about using my art to serve his kingdom in some way. It has not been fully revealed to me as yet but your hand reminds me to keep my hand in his as he leads,

  8. Dee, Listen and Serve! You can't go wrong if you do what He reveals WHEN He reveals it. Step by step by step. It may never be "FULLY" revealed, I think.....but you are already doing what you KNOW to do, and God is opening doors and blessing many already! Don't drag your feet or put off doing what you know to do. Then the next step will be revealed. (I'm "preaching" to myself as I write this to you!)
