I purchased this carved hand at my favorite thrift store this week. After a good cleaning, my husband applied a semi-gloss finish to it. The shape is delicate and beautiful to me. When I look at it, it reminds me of Proverbs 31's description of the wife of noble character. "She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her HAND she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her FINGERS. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her HANDS to the needy."
Early this morning my sister came to use my sewing machine to stitch up a curtain for her daughter's dorm room closet. It was fun to work together. The hand sat on the top of the coffee table near the ironing board. My busy hands WERE happy hands!
