...Because One Man Stood for "Freedom"

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery
...." Galatians 5:1

At the top of the hill in Washington, D.C. stands the Capitol Building of the United States of America. The cornerstone was laid in 1793, but the crowning touch is the statue on top of the rotunda known as the "Freedom Lady" that was placed there in 1863. The Freedom Lady, nearly 20 feet tall, stands proudly atop the dome. A crest of stars frames her face. A shield of stars and stripes is in her left hand.

During the trip across the Atlantic Ocean, a fierce storm developed. The Captain ordered cargo thrown overboard to lighten the load. The sailors wanted to trow the heavy statue overboard, but the captain refused, shouting over the wind, "No! Never! We'll flounder before we thrown 'Freedom' away." And so, "Freedom" was saved, and the statue stands above the dome today-- because one man stood for "Freedom."

Because One Man, Jesus, stood (and died) for freedom, I am free today--from the guilt of my sin, from the shame of my sin, from the penalty of my sin, and from the power of sin to control me! Thank you, Lord Jesus. YOU are the Author of my Freedom. By your grace, I WILL stand firm. Sin will not have dominion over me!

  1. You know, Rebecca, I've always thought two things were the greatest voice for freedom, and that was the fact that God gave man free-will and that Jesus died to free us from our sins.

    This post was beautiful!
I hope you don't mind if I copy it and paste it into a 'personal' journal I have here at home. It sums up perfectly my thoughts.

  2. Beautiful post Rebecca, would be a much better world if all lived by the Good Book. We must all stand for freedom and love and put a stop to all these horrible wars killing our young people....children of God who God died for as well as for us....my heart aches for these families so much.....Have a wonderful July 4th my friend.....:-) Hugs
