An Artful Afternoon in Auburn

Errands and a rest home visit took us to a neighboring town, Auburn. Set in front of various businesses around the square is a delightful display of 20 benches painted by local artists. The benches are sturdy; built of oak by a local woodworker. After a summer on display they will be auctioned off at a September dinner. These are a few of the ones that caught my eye.

Imagine one of these "originals" sitting in your yard or garden!

Colorful brochures were available giving locations and information about the various benches. There were many people like us enjoying the exhibit, well-tended courthouse grounds and beautiful planters around the town square.

  2. Hi Rebecca, Happy Holiday weekend to you and yours! My cousin lives in Angola, and has relatives in Auburn. Small world. I used to spend my summers in Angola with my great grandmother who lived on Lake James. My cousin, aunt and uncle still are on the lake. Those benches are beautiful aren't they. It has given me inspiration! Those purple petunias were quite lovely too. Have a fun weekend!

  3. That is a BEAUTIFUL lake! Yes, it IS a small world. Auburn has done this art thing for several summers now. Two years ago they brought in life size sculptures that brought in thousands of visitors into town. It was a very expensive venture. They are currently fund-raising to bring them back next year. In between, they do some very creative things (such as benches) to keep the interest and tradition alive.

  5. Those benches truly are works of art...have never seen that before so I really enjoyed it. Those purple flowers look too pretty to be real! Were they for sale?

When I saw Auburn I immediately thought of Auburn, Ala, so it's neat that there's more of them.

    blessings with hugs,
