Sane, Simple and almost Sacred!

My last living uncle died last month.
My cousin sent me a bunch of photos found while sorting through things in his father's apartment.
This is a photo of my father and mother.
When I showed  this one to my dad on Sunday, he said, "I think I still HAVE that shirt!"
We turned the photo over to see the date -
"Surely not!  Maybe one really similar!" I suggested.
Monday morning he showed up wearing THIS shirt...
He didn't say a word.  Waited to see if I'd notice.
I did!  Right away!
A Van Heusen.
I left a message with the Van Heusen people on facebook.
Minutes later, they responded:
Hi, Rebecca, That's great!  Glad your father still has his shirt,
it looks great on him.   --Team Van Heusen

My father has worn many good-looking shirts in his eighty-nine years...
maybe none as long as THIS one.

I just read on  Freude and Freuden that Ralph Lauren once said that things made for a specific function must get better with age.  So, Menno van Meurs said,  "I believe you should invest in
things that last because that way, you can enjoy them your whole life."
Apparently that's my father's philosophy - and not a bad one!

Because at the end of the day, we don’t actually need that much. Buy less, pay more.

  2. That's an interesting philosophy and I can see the merits of it. Quality over quantity.

That shirt still does look good.

    1. I probably SHOULD offer to go through his closet with him and do an inventory.....

    1. He IS. And (if I may say so) a man of good character and courage.

  4. I'm reminded that "you get what you pay for". The shirt still looks great, and so does your Dad. Another testament to taking care of the things we own (being a good steward, something I try but fail at sometimes)! HOPE both your Mom and Dad are doing well....and so are you and your hubby.

    1. You're right about the challenge and importance of being a "good steward"!

  5. Good for Dad! I'm happy to see how much he enjoyed showing up in that great shirt! My first thought was 1997 wasn't so long ago but then, after I thought about it, I had a jolt, that was 19 years ago! Holy crow! And the shirt still looks great! I am sorry to hear about your uncle. I have only two relatives left from that generation (fortunately my mom and also my dads brother) and my husband's family has just one.

    1. I know (about how long ago 1997 was)! Suddenly, I find myself just on the brink of being that oldest generation....
