Oh, What a Relief It Is!

I finished a book yesterday (not The Invention of Wings seen here).
I moaned to myself and complained to my husband all the way through it!
Though the subject matter was interesting to me,
it was poorly written in my opinion.
Two of the four main characters had names
beginning with the same letter.
From the git-go, I couldn't keep them straight.
Many of the short chapters began with flashbacks to the childhoods of the four characters,
making it difficult for me to stick with the story.
The conversations were predictable and full of trite comments.
It ended as I imagined it would.
Why oh WHY did I finish it?????
It was an incredible relief to begin THIS book!  The writing is superb.
Believable characters, interesting dialogue, humor, and historical accuracy.
And I'm just at the end of the first chapter!
The older I get, the more particular I am about what I read.
How about you?
(And have you read this book yet?)

  1. I'm very particular. ...it must be profitable or enjoyable. When those two are in the same book, I'm thrilled. My most recent read is by Susan Branch. ..A Fine Romance.

  2. I agree, at my age I try to choose books I will like. Not to be morbid but there is a limited number of books I will have the time to read.

  3. Hi Rebecca,
Have to say I have never even heard of that book. I am like you I am particular
about what I read too. I like it to be something I can learn from, some months
back we read Ben Carson's, "A more perfect union", which was really good, and
right now I am reading "In this together" by Anne Romney...I am only 2 chapters
in but I am really enjoying it......I saw her on a talk show one day back in
the Fall and she was talking about having MS and how it had affected her and
I could so relate to some of the things she was saying as I have had so many
physical issues in the last 15 years, nothing as serious as MS tho, for sure.
So thought I have got to read her book......so glad I am.

Hope this finds you doing well, hon.
I am sick again......I was sick last week and then got over it, then seemingly
I have come down with something else...........or else it is all the same
virus......just not sure..........so hoping it goes quickly.

    You take care hon,
    Blessings, Nellie

    1. I'm sad to hear you're still "under the weather". (Where DID that phrase come from?????) I haven't heard of either of those books....they sound interesting.

    1. I think it will be one of my favorites, too I hope to have a good reading day tomorrow - the weekend has been too full to read. One of SMK's other books was a bit too new-agey for me, but I don't believe this one will trouble me in that way. Compared to the other book I struggled through, the writing in this one is off-the-charts-good!
