Some of my small collection of hymn books |
The pianist played simple tunes before the service in the small church began yesterday.
I was familiar with the songs she played.
Songs like "Only Trust Him".
Songs like "Only Trust Him".
Its words passed through my mind.....
Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
there's MERCY with the Lord
Gratefully, I recognized and noted the word. MY word for 2016. Mercy!
A few minutes later we sang two gospel songs with the congregation.
In loving-kindness Jesus came
my soul in MERCY to reclaim....
followed by "Redeemed".
Redeemed through His infinite MERCY,
His child and forever I am.
"For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive;
and plenteous in mercy to all them that call on you." Psalm 86:5
and plenteous in mercy to all them that call on you." Psalm 86:5
"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." Matthew 5:7
Since adopting this word, I am seeing it in one form or another almost every day!
I'm SO thankful for the Lord's mercy to me and pray to become merciful to others.

"Mercy" just might be the best word that there is!! Without it, I am lost! We all are lost!
ReplyDeleteThe White Sisters (60's & 70's) used to sing "I Am Not Worthy". Last line in the chorus: "Jesus left heaven to die in my place...what mercy, what love, and what grace."
DeleteI love the old hymns!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! They are woven tightly on my heart's strings. Except if ravaged by dementia, I don't expect to ever forget them.
DeleteAmen and a good word for the year!
ReplyDeleteWhere would we be without His mercy? I shudder to think. "Mercy" is a great word for the year, Rebecca. xo
ReplyDeletePerfect word for the year. Mercy, especially at my age. Happy to have found the new blog.
ReplyDeleteAhh, mercy is so much easier to receive than give sometimes. But I like that you added the verse that blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. It reminds me that we get what we put out.
ReplyDeleteThe more I grasp the concept of God's mercy & the extent of it, the more I recognize my own lack of this characteristic & the more I long for it!
DeleteWhat an awesome word to be focusing on...well, to "insist" you focus on!!! ;-) Love the song lyrics and looking at the pages in the hymnal...brings back childhood memories....sweet ones. Thank you so much for the precious comment on my birthday blog....you are such a great Friend! HOPE you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI am SO thankful to have been exposed to the "old" songs - repeated so many times, they are "mine"...part of my personality and psyche. A rich deposit from which I draw over and over and over again.
