a humble little Christmas

"Let’s have ourselves a humble little Christmas.
Don’t think so much of yourself today; think of Jesus and of others.
What a great day to rededicate the remainder of your days on earth to serving Christ
with a humility that transcends the holidays." (Dr. David Jeremiah)

Christmas with Dad & Mother, Fairlawn Haven 2015
I read Dr. Jeremiah's words after arriving home late in the evening on Christmas Day.
How well they described our Christmas
The drive home had been lighted by the beautiful full moon.
We reflected on the hours of Christmas Eve Day and Christmas itself
spent in the company of my father and mother.
Precious hours.
Hours of holding Mother's hand while we played games around a table
in her Special Care Neighborhood.
Hours around another table with my father in the evening.
Serious talk as we read and marveled at the words conveying
the events of the very first Christmas from Luke 1 and 2.
Tender talk as we reached back into our memories of years now far in the past.
Simple food.
Laughter, chuckles, and a few tears.
No tangible gifts were exchanged; only the gift of one another.
And OH the joy of it!
What a great day to rededicate the remainder of (my) days on earth
to serving Christ with a humility that transcends the holidays."

  1. We too had a quiet day. I have not felt good for several weeks and just not up to much. It was a gift to be present somewhat in the beautiful day. Now it is raining, raining, flooding and dark. I have been thinking today of where and how I could live out the quote above. I want to change somehow...soon...

    1. I'm SO sorry to hear you've not felt well. Raining here, too, with flood warnings by Monday. Yes, we share that desire, Claudia. God will show us how. Let's be ready to obey ♥

    1. Fortunately this was not a temptation to me THIS time. I really missed the fruitcake my mother used to make though! I remember looking at the recipe a long time ago and thinking it was too complicated for me to make, but I scoured her recipe file (to no avail) to find it while I was thinking about it this time....

  7. I so enjoy Dr. David Jeremiah's teaching. Sometimes I get to listen to him during the day as I drive to our daughter's. So glad you got to spend time with your precious parents...what a blessing!

  8. What a wonderful way to spend a Christmas. There are far too many commercial distractions nowadays, a people would benefit greatly from just having each other as gifts. Bless you and your family Rebecca.

  9. Hi Rebecca,
Happy New Year hon! Sounds like you had a very Special Christmas too. So glad
you got to spend it with your Mom and Dad. Relationships are the most important
gifts we could ever get, especially with those we love the most.
    Merry Christmas!
Hope your New Year will be happy, healthy and hopeful,
Blessings Abundant to you and Gary,
    Nellie

I also love David Jeremiah's teaching and also Charles Stanley....the thought
of them going home to heaven and not being able to teach is a sad thought to me,
course, their teaching will probably keep being heard as it is with Adrian Rogers and James Kennedy. Hope so anyway.
