Ordinary

Recently I read an interview with Tony Merida, author of Ordinary.
I haven't read the book yet, but these lines from the interview stood out to me:

Many Christians feel as though they aren’t faithful if they don’t live in a mud-hut in India.
While some need to move to India, I want the non-international missionary to see that they can make an extraordinary impact in a cul-de-sac or trailer park or apartment complex by doing things like practicing hospitality, showing neighbor love, caring for the vulnerable, speaking up for the voiceless, and praying.

I joyfully recognize and embrace my current, ordinary and relatively small calling - "caring for the vulnerable, speaking up for the voiceless, and praying."

♪ I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross. ♪
(from Beneath the Cross of Jesus)

  2. Oh friend, that is no small calling! That is the calling of all believers, some of us just do it here and some do it overseas.

    Thank you for sharing this book quote.

    1. Deanna, there was just something tender about the words. I knew in my heart what it is I'm called to do right now, but seeing the words for it was SO confirming somehow...

    2. I understand. Somethings just touch us and make it known to us that we are were we should be!

  3. So often I feel so inadequate....guilty that I'm not doing enough. Thanks for the reminder that I'm where I am "for such a time as this".
