Goodbye, Mitford

I definitely had mixed emotions as I finished the last of 500+ pages
and said a temporary goodbye to Mitford.
Temporary because there are far too many loose ends to tie up.
Surely the next volume cannot be far behind!
Mixed emotions because I'm SO excited to have finished a book - and a long one at that -
after a dry spell in the reading department while at the same time
being sad to have closed the book on such a delightful story
full of fascinating characters, inspiring quotes, and intriguing descriptions of life in a small town.
Until the next Mitford saga, thanks to fellow bloggers' suggestions,
I have these two books with which to occupy my time the next few days.
Unlike Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good,
these are old books and (if I understand correctly), non-fiction.
A Walk Through the Year, Edwin Way Teale/The Shape of a Year, Jean Hersey

  2. The Mitford series is one of my top favorite series. I like and recently read the recent Father Tim book where he and his fair wife travel to Ireland (titled In the Company of Strangers, I think). You might like The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency, the first in a series by Alexander McCall Smith. It is a gentle detective series set in Africa.

    1. I think that might be one I missed, Terra (and there might be another one or two).

I actually have read most - if not all - of the Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency. I DO like them and find myself chuckling at the simplicity of them and the commonality of human nature, etc.

  3. You could always do what I've done many a time and start the first book and read the whole series over again!

    1. Now that sounds like a good plan, Elizabeth. I'm not sure I've ever read a fiction book more than once - at least not knowingly.....

  4. I am on the search right now for some good books to read....the kind you can't put down. I need to find an author I like....and read all their books or something! I have lists of books I need to ask the library help me to find, or get, but just don't follow through with it. I went to the library today, and found that it had been remodeled....this summer....I missed it, didn't even know. :(

  6. never been a Mitford fan, but love Miss Read books, many available at the library. Many have compared Mitford to Miss Read books. Miss Read has the stories set in Fairacre, and a second series in Thrush Green. Stories are set in England. You will probably enjoy,

  7. I absolutely adored this book; cried in the final pages - waiting, longing for the next chapter in the life of Father Tim and Cynthia. Wasn't it something? Hope all is well. Sorry I haven't kept up. It's just my life right now.

    1. Don't worry about "keeping up". I know what you mean (in my own way). All IS well with my soul. Circumstances? Not so much. :)
