My hours and days have been filled with visits to my mother.
Her days in the Memory Unit seem brightened
by interesting and productive activities.
So. one day I took manual pencil sharpeners. and we began to sharpen
a myriad of dull crayons.
It was fun to arrange them by their shades of color....
Yesterday, I took the bank we throw our pennies into at home
along with some "sleeves"...
$8.00 worth later, we took a break.
"...who scorns the day of small things?
These seven eyes of the Lord, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice..."
(Zechariah 4:10)

(Zechariah 4:10)
I am learning to treasure "small things"--and to rejoice, too!
God uses people that will give Him all
No matter how small your all may seem to you
Because little becomes much
As you place it in the Master's hand

ReplyDeleteRebecca you're coming up with interesting ideas for things you can do with your Mom. I know you are a blessing to her! Have a great day - Ann
ReplyDeleteGive your Mother an extra hug...from me, Rebecca.
ReplyDeleteThank you for our Mothers. Their tender hands took wonderful care of their loved ones....children and Grandchildren.
God Bless our Mothers.
...and you, yours (an extra hug from me), Jackie....
DeleteYes. God bless our mothers.
What you're doing with your mom is SO important -- for both of you!
ReplyDeleteSo true, Kathie (the "both" part)!
DeleteHow neat to plan projects that occupy your mother. I love finding small things to treasure and often feel more at peace with them rather than the big moments we so often think are worth much more.
ReplyDeleteNice, post. Creative ideas for spending time together! I love the crayon work!
ReplyDeletePS: I forgot, my Mom often does wonderful little jobs for me too. Once she organized all my buttons--a whole tin full, stringing matching ones together so they are easy to find. She untangles my necklaces frequently, and fixes my sewing machine. She is the one who cleans the eggs each day when I gather them from the coop. She also usually gets the job of gluing broken items and cleaning garage sale finds. She polishes my ornate lamps when I am too busy and does all the dusting of intricate items with wooden scrollwork and such! What a blessings!
ReplyDeleteRebecca, you write such wonderful things. I love reading your thoughts. Treasure this time with your mom. You will never regret it. I look back and remember the simple things my mom and I did. I wish i had more time with her, especially having time to reflect on what meant so much to me and memories. Miss seeing you.
ReplyDeleteI miss seeing you, too, Sue. One of these days.....
DeleteYou are brilliant! What sweet simple ways for the two of you to spend time together and get a little job accomplished too!
ReplyDeleteKeep me busy thinking of ways to pass the hours in ways that help Mother feel productive and focused. All the while, I'm loving the time we get to spend together...Very surreal experience, these past weeks!
Deletelovely hymns of praise, lovely words... and the photos are just so special, Rebecca (yes even the ones of the unexpected crash and damage on top of all the unexpected alterations to your vacation. Haven't been around blogland much lately, cause I feel connected to my blog friends on FB anyway... but this week I am making a point to visit them at their blogs. It is more satisfying and enriching to read what they are sharing on their blogs! How beautiful this post is, and the others I have read aside from this one. (Yes, I scrolled down and read up to Sept 28 post, I felt that what you have written was too precious to miss!) It's getting cold these days... temps have definitely dipped. It's wonderful to experience what fall is like. And as always, your friendship warms my heart. Much love...
ReplyDeleteRebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca, my heart goes out to you and your mom. Praise GOD, He is giving you such sweet exercises to do together, building yet new memories for BOTH of you. You know I lost my mom over 5 years ago. So wish we had another visit, a bit more time together. Bless you and yours always~
ReplyDeleteWith love, Jess
Thank you, Jess. I know how blessed I am to still have my mother. It's gracious of you to bless me with your precious words here...
DeleteYou have chosen what is most important,to treasure small things and rejoice!! Great post. Your Mom is a lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteYes, she IS, Sue!
DeleteWhat a beautiful and inspiring post, Rebecca. I am learning this valuable lesson myself. Thank you for sharing and for stopping by "my place." You encouraged me to step out and share what's on my heart, once again. What a precious daughter you are to your lovely mother. You are a great example to me, as well. I needed that too. Abundant blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat an ingenious way to add some fun to your mother's life. Such simple things can often be very rewarding. I think of our grandchildren, and how much they appreciate it when I take the time to color with them. Such little things. Such huge ministries.
ReplyDeleteBlessings upon your sweet mother; and joy for your times together.
Kathleen
Small things! My mom has always been big on details....small things. They were important to her. Flower seeds, sequins, little jars with little things inside. I'm glad you can spend time with your mom like this. For small things make up our lives.
ReplyDeleteI think it's just being together that matters, the task is just the means of doing that. Reminds me of times I sat in mom's kitchen and snipped beans.
ReplyDeleteYou are SO right, Debora.
