...that's what I'm doing today -
this Saturday before Mother's Day.
I will be thinking of a way to patch the tear (and hole)
in this large piece of fabric.
I simply love its colors - though faded and somewhat worn.
It serves many purposes and has a lot of life left in it!
Reminds me a little bit of myself, I think.
It's beautiful! Is it a tablecloth?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful material. Not sure the best way to patch the tear. Perhaps find some very similar fabric and blind stitch it over the tear?? I think a little patch will simply had character to this fabulous piece.

I agree - about a patch adding character :) And I'll probably find something in the same color family, faded out, and do what you say. Should I put the patch on the right side or wrong side of the fabric, do you think?
DeleteIf the tear is small and can be neatly darned that might be another option. A patch would probably work best on the right side if the tear is large, that way if you use the piece as a table cloth you won't have a bump where the patch is underneath and an exposed tear on the right side, does that make sense. I think appliqueing the patch with some embroidery floss might be another option to make it look unique and pretty as well as necessary to repair the tear.
ReplyDeleteAnd definitely don't use new fabric.

Thanks! I think that appliqueing with embroidery floss might be a great option--not even trying to camouflage the patch...
DeleteYes, you do serve many purposes and have a lot of life left in you!! I agree. Also agree on the beauty of this fabric.
ReplyDeleteThough faded and somewhat torn, serves many purposes and has a lot of life left in it.. hmm.. I think I too resemble that remark! :)

I like adding something instead of just a patch...maybe a heart?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I missed this - bu YES! A heart patch!
DeleteI was going to say a patch also....but Dee has a better idea. A patch in the shape of a heart....(cut from what I call a *cutter quilt*)
ReplyDeleteIt's uNAimous, then! A ♥ it is :)
