Post-Election Living in Small Town USA

This was posted (and reposted) by Jim Wiegand on facebook yesterday.  Of everything said and unsaid following the election, it spoke to me most...

"Sodom was not destroyed because of the wickedness of its king. It was destroyed for its lack of 10 righteous men to redeem it. This morning, politics is for the politicians once again. Everyone else, get back to the work of Loving God, Loving People and Loving to Serve. Be the righteousness in your small part of the world that you want to see everywhere. Individuals are nothing but drops in the ocean, but oceans are made out of nothing but drops."

That will be my focus in my small town today.  BEING the righteousness that I l-o-n-g to see EVERYWHERE.  I am "nothing but a drop in the ocean".  But by God's grace and in His power, I WILL be a righteous drop!

I began the day praying and in The Word.
I have errands to run; things to do.
But more than anything I want to be loving God, loving people and loving to serve.
I am eager to see where this determination will take me today.

I am instructed by 2 Timothy 3:1 (and verses before and after): "But understand this, that in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble {hard to deal with and hard to bear}."  I understand this better than yesterday--but probably not as much as I will in the coming year.  More than ever, I value the fellowship of all Christians who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22).

  1. Good words this morning Rebecca.
I feel that yesterday I awoke and realized that we are all living in the Post Modern world and I am not sure what to do with that thought. The thought is all pervading and I feel it has put me a little of kilter as I try to understand exactly what it means.

  2. I agree. My thoughts post-election have been to get about my Father's business, while continuing to pray for Obama and the rest. It's hard to deal with the feelings of disappointment and confusion, but I'm making a conscious effort to focus on where my true citizenship lies.

  3. Very good thoughts this morning, Rebecca. I was hugely disappointed here in Ohio...but remembering that the God of my salvation is not the government...and that God-fearing people have always been and always will be a remnant and not a majority. Nationalism and patriotism are not the same thing as Christianity...and American Christians would do well to remember that. This is our Father's world and one day the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will restore all that has been broken. Very real suffering in the here and now will be put into eternal perspective. I thought a lot about Matthew 7:13 yesterday: "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it."

  6. We need to prepare Our hearts for the days ahead....The Lord tells us not to worry when we see these things coming about...but to look up because our redemption is nigh. The world will not get better..:(

  7. Good post, timely, in view of the elections that you just had. We have prayed for your nation, Rebecca. The kings and princes that rule the nations are still all under the sovereignty of God. We put our trust in Him alone. Blessings to you as you. Jesus is coming soon!

  10. If ever believers need to focus on the fact that our Kingdom is not of this world, today is that day. I am so encouraged to hear (and read) from so many that believe our real & only answer is more of Him!

  11. So true. The need for Him is great and sometimes things have to get really dark for people to realize they need the Light!
