The Moon Shines Full!

The sight from our front porch this morning....
The street light outshined the Harvest Moon
but couldn't diminish its beauty as it shined through the treetops.
The Harvest Moon is so named because, before the days of electricy,
its light allowed farmers to work late into the night
harvesting their early-autumn crops before they rotted.
This glowing, full moon rises three days in a row just after sunset
and bathes the evening in an unusual amount of light.
I sing the mighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.
(From Isaac Watt's, "I Sing the Mighty Power of God")

  1. A beautiful post tonight, Rebecca. No harvest moon seen here...clouds day and night. Heavy fog a morning or two ago. Would like to see the harvest moon, but not our turn this time! :)

  3. A truly beautiful moon! We have been able to enjoy it so much with the clear skies. This morning as I came downstairs a shaft of moonlight shone across the kitchen floor giving the room a silvery glow what a lovely treat to begin the day.

    Blessings to you,

  4. Rebecca, I enjoyed reading your post. We too had the harvest moon last night, just when I was driving back from church. Isn't it amazing. My dear hub has taken some lovely photos of the moon which I must share on my blog. Hope you have a lovely day. Jeanie

  6. I remember playing outside during the harvest moons as a child...it was very cool. To many city lights for me to get as good as an effect.:(

  7. It seems as if the Harvest Moon is present and accounted for many nights in NC, especially in our town. It's usual for me to look out at midnight and not see "night." I think it might have something to do with the military base nearby. Very strange yet comforting. However it comes, light at night is always welcome in my neighborhood!

  8. I just came back from a visit to my parents in Kansas. The landscape of course is lots and lots of fields and crops, nothing of which we see down here on the coast. While your harvest moon is in the sky above October fields, ours is above the ocean....still being the same moon!
