New Eyes

It lay in several spots, this small rug crocheted out of bread wrappers.  First in an interior doorway.  Then on the landing of our stairway.  Once in front of a chair.  It never seemed right.

This morning I saw it with "new" eyes!

Why didn't I think of this before?
It's perfect on this little table, sitting in front of a lace-covered window
under a wooden bowl holding old croquet balls!

Sometimes I need "new" eyes when it comes to a person
or a problem.
Fresh perspective, insight, appreciation--
and the once "irregular" person or problem
becomes a person or thing of great beauty.
Lesson learned.

God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (New Living Translation)
"What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord," he said, "I want to see!" Luke 18:41

UPDATE:  Speaking of "new eyes"...just got the word re. "Dynamic Views" --
Blogger's new update.
I don't know WHAT to think!
Yes?  No?

  2. Being able to have "new eyes" to help us gain a better perspective on life's issues is always a good thing.

BTW, I'm impressed with this rug/mat that you crocheted with bread wrappers. I don't think I'd have the patience to do such a project.

    Blessings on your Sunday!

    1. Dear Mara (and EVERYONE else), I did NOT crochet it. An elderly friend of ours who is now deceased did it. I'm going to do a post on my "thrift" blog in a day or two about it.

I remember that my grandmother did this. Maybe in the late 60's???? That's one reason I was happy to receive this - AND another larger one and a pillow!

  3. True. I appreciate your application. And your right the rug is perfect there! I have one similar but larger that lives on the kitchen floor in front of the sink. I purchased it at a yard sale for .25 cents! I don't think it had ever been used. I was glad that the recipient didn't appreciate because I love it.

I just read your previous post too and was so moved. What a treasure the pictures and the memories are. Thanks for giving us a peek at the love.

    Blessings, Debbie

  5. I have tried and tried to crochet bread bags AND store bags....I just cannot do it. I just need to stick with fabric. I have ONE rectangle rug that my Granny made.....she was constantly crocheting something and she turned out many a rug and afghan.

  6. It's perfect!
My Aunt and my Grandmother also crocheted bread bags in that way, and they also used to make wreaths out of them too.
'Love your thoughts on new eyes for people. I know I need to do that with a few people, I'm praying hard for the ability to see them in a 'New' Light.
I didn't know Blogger had a new update, I'm just getting used to the 'old-new' update!

And so sorry for you with the Facebook update! I'm trying to hold out too!
    Love and Prayers,

  7. I like it on the table. It pulls everything together. I enjoy seeing things with new eyes...but I always seem to blink them a tad bit till they adjust. Kind of like out FB changes. Speaking of changes..I now have the new editor which is not actually new it is just that i am so far behind. I am totally lost but determined to figure it out.

    1. Crazy, is what it is! More options. I'll need more time to decide if any of it is for me.

  10. Love this post Rebecca and I needed it, too! Dynamic Views are alright IF you use a lot of pix in your post, but you trade off backgrounds - at least that's how it appears to me.

  11. What a great resourceful Soul it was that thought to make something so Lovely out of old bread wrappers! I always try to look at the World around me with Fresh eyes, it helps that I've almost always got a Child around and they tend to always look at Life and the World around them that way... with Wonder and appreciation since they are Fresh from the Father. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and with encouraging sweet words for our Family during this difficult time.
