Me, Myself, and I

My parents & our extended family minus 17!
Recently I was part of a group picture.
One person out of maybe thirty-one people.
Guess who I looked for first when the picture was sent to me?
Have YOU ever done that?
Not only did I look for myself,
I breathed a sigh of relief that my eyes weren't closed.
Then I did a really embarrassing thing to admit.
I zoomed in.
(Don't you DARE!)
Anyhow...this whole exercise made me realize how self-centered I am.
How quickly I look out for myself.
How much I need the reminder of Philippians 2:1-4:

If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ,
if his love has made any difference in your life,
if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you,
if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor:
Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends.
Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top.
Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead.
Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage.
Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
(The Message)

  2. Good post..good word...I had to laugh because my husband will always comment on how he looks before he even notices others in the photo!

  4. Oh, that's nothing. I think everybody does that, I do. I just don't see you as self-centered at all. I love this picture, so sweet, and everyone looks so happy!

  5. Oh, Rebecca, I love this family photo! And I hope to one day get one just like it when we are all together. Maybe I will make that my goal for Easter or next Christmas when extended family get together.
And scanning pictures for ourselves, well, I think that's our insecurity coming out, we want to make sure we look at least half-way decent! I know I've ruined so many group shots because of closed eyes, or looking down, or reprimanding a grandchild (now that was one of the worst!).

I do love your message here, and I hope to take it to heart and put it into action! I've been thinking about that so much lately. I have a tendency to feel that whatever I am doing is the MOST IMPORTANT thing at the moment and I expect everyone around me to feel the same way! I have a very serious problem with "ME, MYSELF, and I"!
    Love and Prayers,

  6. I don't look at that situation as self centered. Although worrying how we appear to others can be misconstrued as self centered, I think it's important that we make a good first impression. Even in a photo we want to make a good impression. I don't think that's self centered of you at all Rebecca. Striving to be your best is part of who you are! We should all be so "Self Centered"!! Love Di ♥

  10. My son makes us all up into little Lego figures, groups us together, and takes a picture of us. It's better that way. ;D
YOUR picture looks great! What a lovely family.
