When Life Gives you Lemons...

Yesterday our internet provider went down.  A lot of what I "do" depends on internet service--
not to mention the FUN I have on the side.  I waited until our local library opened this morning to take advantage of the free wireless available to me.
Meanwhile, I had some hours to fill so I started in on a distasteful task--
cleaning out one (of many) stashes of miscellany that has
accumulated over a period of time.
(By the way, does ANYONE else have stashes????)
I was successful!  I'd almost forgotten that I had this lovely
tole (I think that's what you call it) tray.

The experience reminds me of the importance of keeping "short accounts"
with the Heavenly Father--not letting junk ("little" sins of omission and co-mission) pile up and block the beauty of fellowship with Him.
If I'd just get in the habit of dealing with odds and ends as they "happen"
instead of tossing them into drawers, trays or onto countertops,
I wouldn't have to spend hours sorting, tossing, organizing and storing!
So,I'm thankful for the "lemon" of interrupted wireless today.
I accomplished something that's been bogging me down for quite awhile now,
and have been reminded of a fundamental truth for my spiritual life as well.

  1. Doesn't it feel good to tackle those projects, Rebecca? I tackled a similar project last week without meaning to...Our game cabinet had turned into a little bit of everything and we couldn't find our games anymore. Now suddenly we want to play board games every night! :)

  2. A day at the library is definitely 'lemonade' for me! I recently spent an afternoon going through coupons I've been hoarding...most of them were expired! Feels so good to put things in order!

  3. I have a few stashes but really I try to keep on top of them. I only keep things that I use, enjoy looking at or have sentimental meaning. Now that I have a lot of, sentiment, that is! Too much yet I can't part with it, especially all of mom's things.
We have free wi-fi at our library too but if it came down to that, I'd probably quit using the computer completely. I'm not that attached to it! Love Di ♥

  4. Yes. We call it the telephone book drawer. It's scary.

  5. I am not a stasher but I may be in denial. I try to stay ahead of them but you know sometimes it is just too good to pitch.

  6. Hi Rebecca! It's so good to meet you. I'm thrilled you found your way to my little blog. Thank you for your lovely comment and your crockpot dish sounds wonderful. I've found simple cooking, with simple foods, is the best. I adore this post. My hubby passed away unexpectedly three years ago last month, and I've spent those three years decluttering the stuff we accumulated over forty years of marriage. Of course once one begins decluttering it touches every area of one's life; physical and spiritual. I agree, we need to keep "short accounts". Junk can so easily creep into many areas of our lives.

  7. We used to have a pastor that would say: If life hands you lemons, make lemonade!" It looks to me like that's exactly what you've done here.

I love rainy days. For some reason they inspire me to organize. I'm not a hoarder or stasher; and I don't have a junk drawer (I know, I'm totally weird!!), but my sock drawers get out-of-whack, as does my closet. Whenever there's a sense of order I somehow feel more calm. Go figure.

  8. Sassy, No you're not weird - just very disciplined and organized. (Something I very much admire.)

  9. The feeling of accomplishment that comes with organizing is so delicious, that I wonder why I don't do it more often. I kind of work in fits and spurts. I do more organizing in the spring...and also in the summer when we are having a homeschool break.
I'll bet you're feeling that delicious sense of accomplishment tonight!

  10. It feels so good to do this. I find it usually doesn't take very long, and then I think, "Why on earth didn't I do this a long time ago?"

  11. You mean there may be people who DON'T have stashes? Oh dear. Point taken.

  12. Just popped over from Jer.29:11, and I spied one of my secret collectibles in your photo- Pez dispensers- must have a box of them too. Simple, sane and sacred.... I like it, I like it very much. It's nice to have another place to visit, pop over for a visit to the ol' attic sometime.

  13. Miss Rebecca!
Hope your internet is working better but glad you were able to head over to the library and go through some of the stuff thats' had ya bogged down. I too know what you mean.* Feels good doesn't it to clear out what's not needed? Looks like you refound a pretty as well! As the weather begins to get dreary that pretty tray will be an added welcome garden fix!
May life's interruptions be further blessings to you today. Holykisses xoxo

This is a great post, and you are so right....putting things away and keeping short accts. with the Lord, are both the best way to
keep your house and your life!!

  15. I have a few stashes and I try to keep them cleared out periodically. I love to sort, rid up, and control all of my stuff. I never have enough time to do it the way I way I would like.

I enjoyed your analogy. I do need to keep a clean slate before the Lord.

I do love your black flowered tray. It is such a keeper.

  16. I just popped over here to say that I enjoy blue and white, too.

  17. What a great reminder... and yes, I confess I have stashes too... and every so often must declutter and edit, a chore I'm not all that adept at but I Hope to become better with. *Winks* Sometimes great stuff I forgot about turns up... or other great stuff someone else loves or would enjoy and then it can go off to it's new Home or to some Charitable Organization. Our System went down too & I was rather impatient and at a loss for a time... we get so spoiled sometimes when we can always rely upon things.

Thanks for stopping by with your kind words about my Christmas Post. I enjoy observing when I'm out and about... and especially during the Holy Days I'm always puzzled why some who Celebrate Christmas seem to have forgotten the Reason for the Season or leave the Lord out of it? It just never has made much sense to me... I would never celebrate a Holy Day that was Spiritually meaningless to me. But I suppose for some it is merely a Holiday or the draw is the Festivity portion & what it has come to signify to them... and not necessarily a Holy Day and so the significance of the day/Season is therefore entirely different??? I see far more cranky behavior or people being unlovely, inconsiderate & stressed prior to Christmas than at any other time of the year & that just grieves my Spirit and I feel sorry for them missing out on what it SHOULD mean. So weaving the Reminder into my Post was intentional *Winks* in Hopes that perhaps more Dear folks will be intentional about being a good Witness while they are out in public preparing for what is known to be a Christian Holiday?

  18. To everything there is a reason :) Which reminds me, I have a "stash" in my laundry room that could use a little time from me.
