Beauty...Disciplined...Life

Twenty-four years ago, I wrote this book.  Just a couple of days ago, I found this copy in a thrift shop!  I think I kept two original copies SOMEwhere, but I couldn't tell you where they are.  In all my thrift store excursions, I've not run across one before...

As I contemplate the subject and the words (beauty, disciplined and life),  I am forced to examine my life, confess, and take some personal steps of repentance.

As grim as it sounds, the Bible says "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful...For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the
                                                                   adversaries."  (Hebrews 10:23, 26-27)

"Exhort one another every day as long as it is called 'today,'
that none of you maybe hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." (Hebrews 3:13)

"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace,
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."  (Hebrews 4:16)

I'm posting about some of my other thrift store finds on my "thrifty style" blog.
Come on over if you're interested!
I didn't realize how many things I'd found until I unpacked last night!
Are YOU a thrift store shopper?  What have you found lately?

  1. Oh, dear Rebecca, I didn't know you authored a book. Amazon is sending me a copy. The funny thing is, I read this book years ago. I read everything I can on the disciplined life. I used to own a copy but hundreds of books were lost in our fire. I'm eager to read it again.

  2. Just a worthy subject today. Discipline is often seen as restrictive & no fun, when it fact it's the course leading to freedom and joy.

I dare say my life could use a large dose of discipline these days. From what I eat to what I watch on TV; from when/how I spend my time with the Lord to what I allow my mind to ponder - I again need to get intentional. To me, that's discipline's taproot.

    Blessings,
    Kathleen

  3. Kathleen, "Worthy" is a good word to attach to the subject. It IS a serious subject, but (as you pointed out) when it is achieved, it results in freedom and great joy! Unfortunately, the opposite is also true...

  7. I had no idea you were a published author. How exciting to find it in a thrift shop! (Maybe the person who placed it there had gleaned all she needed from it).

I've been reading your vacation posts--and enjoying them; just not commenting much these days.

I, too, really need to repent and be more disciplined. Maybe I could find a book about it! (smiles!)

  8. This is just awesome...I am so glad to meet you as an author, and 25 years ago. That must have stopped you in your steps when you saw it.
    Thanks for the scriptures.

  10. How exciting to learn that you are a published author! I hope the person who owned the book was enlightened and fulfilled. Who knows, she may have passed it on to friends or even had a discussion group. The impact from your writing could be wide-spread.
