Splendor in the Snow

During a break from watching golf (the Phoenix Open), my husband climbed out an upstairs window to shovel some snow off the flat roof that covers our living room addition.
Yesterday I heard the potential weight of snow on a roof and became a bit fearful about a cave-in!  I had been out earlier in a serious snowfall--talking "white-outs" here!  Had I realized how dangerous it was, I wouldn't have set out in the first place.  We probably got another 4"-5" of snow today--and it was the wet, heavy kind.  I'll sleep better tonight knowing it's off the flat roof.
Seeing a good price on International Coffees at Big Lots last week, I'd stocked up (but forgotten)!  My husband suggested a cup this afternoon.  We both enjoyed it.  Now I think I'm going to find a caramel topping recipe that doesn't require white corn syrup. If I can find it, we're going to make some snow ice-cream!  (I know I'm out of cocoa--thus no hot fudge....)

I DID finish the card sorting project (see previous post), and this afternoon I've been reading a most fascinating book by Pat Conroy, My Reading Life.  I hope to finish it this evening.  'Twill be a good ending to a splendid, snow-filled Saturday.

  1. Yeah, I saw something on tv yesterday about heavy snows damaging rooftops if it's not cleared o ff. There was also a short segment on how to make your own rooftop snow remover thing, too. I'm glad everything seems okay to far and there's no damage to your home!! Pat Conroy is interesting. I saw the Hallmark movie made about his first year of teaching "The Water is Wide"..based off the book he wrote. It's a really sweet movie. Have a good weekend. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  2. Cute pics of Gary! I love those international coffees too...sometimes I pour a regular cup of coffee, add a Tbsp. of flavored creamer, add whipped cream, and sprinkle some of the international coffee on top. Move over Starbucks!

  4. I remember the days when we had to worry about the amount of snow on the roof! Living here, it' generally not a problem. I remember many people shoveling the snow from their roofs.
It sounds like you and Gary had a good day together Rebecca. I hope you have a good weekend!
    Love Di ♥

  5. Rebecca,

I'm trying a response via facebook connection since I've had trouble otherwise....?

We're in Indy for a couple of days with our daughter. When we arrived yesterday they had 2" ice on their street, driveway, and yard....and they received 4" of snow on top of that ice today! AAAAAAAAGH, it appears everywhere we go the mega-snows follow us - !!

  7. Look at all that snow. Well your hubby must know that we here in Phoenix have been quite cold as well and it is causing some OPEN problems.

Let us all thaw soon. :)
