Soup and Celebration

Their 64th anniversary was Monday.  We celebrated here last night.
Yes.  They are my parents. How blessed I am.
The hats?  They're for the celebration of my brother-in-law's 50th birthday!
It was a double celebration!
I made a big pot of soup.
We enjoyed it with apple salad (yummy!), cheese and crackers, and a red velvet cake.
The evening's entertainment consisted of a reading of Church Bulletin Bloopers
followed by a game of dominoes.  Mexican Train, of course.

  2. Your parents look awfully young to be celebrating their 64th anniversary...must be their happy disposition! They both have great smiles!

  3. Wanda, they went to a fine hotel overnight Monday and said many people made the same comment...I DO believe it is related to their cheerful dispositions and determination to be as active as possible. They enjoy doing things for other people and have great love for the Lord Jesus.

(They would also be quick to say it is because of the sweet grace of God. So many of their family and friends have not lived this long or enjoyed so many years of marriage.)

  6. I FINALLY GOT HERE! I came through your Facebook post and I was able to catch up on so much that I've been missing! I still can't get to your blog through my blog. But this was a nice surprise!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO YOUR PARENTS! BEAUTIFUL!
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR BROTHER-IN-LAW! JOY TO ALL!
It sounds like a wonderful celebration! And the soup looks wonderful too, I'd like to try your apple salad, that sounds like such a good fit with soup.

Okay, I've read back and I hope you don't mind if I comment on all I've missed in this one post.
I don't remember that you played piano, that is a Blessing!
I saw your post from Jan 4 about still having decorations up, I usually leave mine up until after the Feast of the Epiphany.
I especially liked the 'hand wreath' and the 'bed spring wreath'!
Your Lady Bug Christmas celebration sounded like so much fun! Don't you love that bonding/happy/spirit of friendship?!

Oh, the hockey game! I think I've only been to one in my life when we lived in Minnesota, all I remember is that the fans were loud and used foul language! I am not a big sports fan at all (although my Dad was a big hockey fan, he had season tickets to the New York Rangers for years and years, but he never used foul language!)

I really enjoyed reading about Lettie Cowman and I loved her 'trust' quote (something I need now!) and her 'laugh it off' (another needed thing in my life!).

I've been 'double-booked' also at times, and if I don't refer to my calendar I forget everything!

I'm a candle buff too! AND I have so many I've never used yet, just collecting dust! My motto this year is going to be 'use it or lose it', if I don't use it, I'm gifting/donating EVERYTHING!

And the strangest RSVP I ever heard was when I was a young mother and another mother was hosting a breakfast, one excuse she got was "I'm sorry I can't go to the breakfast, I have to vacuum"!!! Vacuum????? Oh, well, to each his own I guess.

    LOVED catching up here, Rebecca!
Sorry for the long comment. I'm out of control!
    LOVE YOU!,
    Eileen

  9. Hi Rebecca,
64 years wow, that is awesome!! Is that your parents??? and Happy birthday to your brother-in-law. Looks like a good time to me, and the menu
sounded great. We love love love red velvet cake, and found a red velvet cheesecake at Sams before Christmas, so that was our Christmas dessert.
That was a great Anniversary picture as well.
    You captured them perfectly.
Have a Wonderfully blessed day my friend,
    Nellie

  10. Yes, Nellie....they ARE my parents. And the Red Velvet Cake was from WalMart. It was very moist and delish. I've found their sheet cakes to be very good also and as reasonably priced as anywhere.

  11. Oh I never did get to learn Mexican Train Dominoes. One of the sweet little old ladies at our church was going to teach us and then she passed away, I really miss her. She was a character! My husband calls me "The Domino Queen" Rebecca! I love playing.
Your parents look so sweet and in love, how beautiful! We should all aspire to be like them! Happy Anniversary to the lovely couple!
Your BIL looked thrilled with his cute little hat on! It looked like a fun night with great looking food. I'm happy to hear that you were able to enjoy it !
    Love Di ♥

  12. Di, the funniest thing about Mexican Train Dominoes is that everyone has their version :)
There is a Florida version, apparently an Ohio version, of course the official Domino version, and the list goes on.

  14. I just read that you are getting some relief from your shingles pain. Yay! Hallelujah! I suppose on damp days you will feel it again from time to time but hopefully not with the same intensity. I am glad you are better.
