Pillows and Promises

Mark 4 (The Message)

35-38Late that day he said to them, "Let's go across to the other side." They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, "Teacher, is it nothing to you that we're going down?"

39-40Awake now, he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, "Quiet! Settle down!" The wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass. Jesus reprimanded the disciples: "Why are you such cowards? Don't you have any faith at all?"

Jesus was resting on more than a pillow.  He went to sleep on the promise, "Let us go unto the other side." Jesus was so assured of reaching His destination, that He could sleep through the storm. The ship was not only sailing on the water but also on the promise Jesus had just given! That's why Jesus could go to sleep-- because the promise would not fail, neither would the ship!
A couple of days ago, the Autumn Cottage Diarist showed the cushions in her lovely home.  I found it interesting and decided to take these photos of the pillows in OUR living room...
Someone has said, "There are no pillows so soft as God's Promises".
"Why then are you such a coward?" come the words of Jesus to me.  "Don't you have any faith at all?"
Lord, increase my faith!
Do you have some interesting cushions in YOUR home?  Are you "resting" on a specific promise of God today?  Remember:  His promises NEVER fail!  (And neither will the "ship"!)

  3. Awesome pillows! One of the many things we have in common is our love of the color BLUE!

Here is one of my favorite "pillows" that I rest on:
Exodus 20:6 "... I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands."

  5. Thank you for the compliment of mentioning my blog, Rebecca - and for allowing us to see your own most beautiful needlepoint pillows/cushions. I adore anything blue and white - and it looks as if you find it attractive as well! Really lovely.

  6. I love the idea behind this post! It reminds me of another quote "Instead of telling God how big your storm is, tell the storm how big your God is." I think that truly learning to trust in God and rely on Him even when everything around us seems to be in turmoil, is probably one of the toughest things to learn!
Really uplifting post Rebecca, thank you!

  7. My favorite pillow was given to me by a writing friend. On one side there are ink pens and in different fonts the words, "Write on." On the back is an old typewriter with the words, "Not my type." It makes me smile every time I fluff it! Now I'll think of "there are no pillows softer than the promises of God."

  10. Thank you, Dee. Mostly, I just know what I like and gravitate towards it. I don't feel I have a particularly good eye (but then again, coming from an artist such as you, I DO say thank you for the compliment.)

  17. Never thought about that rocky ride in connection with the pillow! Love the contemplation...

Your pillows are lovely; I don't have many extras around my house, but I am thankful for the ones that accompany me to bed... there are many of them! They are a comfort to me in this season.

Blessings to you this weekend, sister.
