Bridge Over Troubled Waters

A beautiful bridge that we crossed yesterday at the Ohio/West Virginia state line!

When you're weary Feeling small When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all
I'm on your side When times get rough And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down ...
When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you
I'll take your part When darkness comes And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down...

So go the words to the Simon and Garfunkel song, popular in the late 60's/early 70's.  I was a college coed,  torn between two "love interests".  My husband won out.  (Actually, I was the WINNER--not the prize.)  During one particularly stressful time, he bought me an album containing this song. It remains a favorite to this day.

Jesus said, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
And then, He did it!
God said, When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
(Isaiah 43:2)

  2. Cindy, I don't like the old-fashioned kind. They creep ME out, too. Something about this one...you didn't realize you were ON a bridge...and the sight of it ahead was so beautiful - the cables sparkled in the sun light...

  5. Beautiful post Rebecca, I'd be interested in hearing more about the college days!
What an unusual looking bridge! I don't get to see too many, so I enjoyed this photo. Lovely inspiration to go along with it! Love Di ♥

  7. That song was a favorite of my husband's, he had that album and played it over and over again when we were going out. I wasn't a big Simon & Garfunkel fan but I did like that one and Sounds of Silence.
Nice post! Very unusual bridge! We have to go over bridges or through tunnels if we want to go anywhere (we live on Long Island in NY), so I'm used to it.
    LOVE the Bible verse!
    Love to you,

  10. Very interesting post. I like briges too, though as a child I remember a place between my aunt's house and ours (where we visited often) that was just a place where the road ran between two wide areas of a river. No bridge, just the road--no guardrails. I was terrified of it and still remember sitting in the backseat of my parent's car paralyzed with fear when we crossed that section of road. I just thought, 'one wrong move and we're in the water!' I have had a recurrent dream several times in my life that I'm on such a stretch of road somewhere and that the water is coming over the road while I'm trying to drive through. Funny how a childhood memory can stay with us like that. Great Bible verse!
