Oh! Grow Up!

This is one of our grandsons!  Don't know why I can't quit looking at this picture!  It made me think about Growing Up...how children WANT to be grown-up, how we wish they WOULDN'T grow up so fast, and how FAST they DO!

Many years ago, I wrote a theme song for a conference that had the theme "GROW UP" based on Ephesians 4:14-15.*  The words to the chorus were:
GROW UP!  No longer infants!
Instead, speaking the truth in love
We shall in all things GROW UP
Into Him who is the Head, that is Christ.

Christian growth/maturity is desperately needed in all of God's children! Sadly, sometimes things are reversed when it comes to spiritual growth. Too few Christians  WANT to; the Heavenly Father wishes we WOULD; and we DON'T seem to grow up very FAST at all.

*Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things GROW UP into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

I wonder what it's gong to take?

  3. Great post....:) I'm always trying to grow and be more like Christ everyday...some days are better than others :) The photo of your grandson is so sweet....precious little boy doing a grown-up thing of trying to "shave" :) :) My friend has a photo of her husband and son (about the same age as your grandson) shaving together :) Have a lovely week, Rebecca. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  4. Rebecca, what an adorable picture, I can understand you wanted to look at it so much.
I love the analogy you have given today, oh! so true.

Loved your last post on the lights for your porch, the photo of the house with the moon was so pretty, I have the hardest time taking photos at night when outside. Not the camera just me. lol
    Have a blessed week.
    Hugs,

  6. This is such a cute photo - shows how our children are looking at us and copying what we do!

What you wrote about growing up is so true - thanks for sharing this, Rebecca.

  7. This is a message we can't hear often enough! To intentionally remain childish (which differs from child-like) is pure folly; and none more so than to do it spiritually.

How much more powerful would God's people - the Body - be were they to actually grow up?

    Great voice!

    P.S. Love that little guy!

  9. That reminded me of the one scene from "Home Alone"!!! Yes, we Christians need to mature. I just had that discussion with a Christian friend earlier today.

  10. I have a photos of two of my grands doing the same, with the mirror and all! Only they were using a toy plastic shaving kit I bought one of them for his birthday. It was particularly cute because my son, retro man, "shaves like his grandfather" using the shaving mug, soap, and razor!

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
"Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you." Robert Fulghum

What will it take for Christians to grow up and mature? It's a life-long process, isn't it? To avoid being tossed to and fro by every wind and wave that comes along, we have to study and learn what is REAL and AUTHENTIC and cling to it in spite of circumstances. Not always easy, but I think that is when those huge growth spurts have come for me.

    Thanks for the great reminder!
