He's At It Again!

After buying this piece at an estate sale for $1.00...
...and seeing THIS picture in Mary Jane's Farm magazine within days of my purchase...
...THIS piece now sits in our living room, thanks to my husband's diligence and skill!
He's at it again!  Yesterday he bought this metal cabinet for $2.50! I know he'll work his magic on it...and the piece below is primed and ready for a coat of cream-colored paint.  We found it discarded on the curb while on a housewalk a few months ago.  Yesterday I saw a picture of one in a decorating book at Borders.  It sat grandly in the entrance of an elegant home.  We'll be looking for a round piece of glass to fit the top.
He has stained this chair that a friend found on a pile of trash and brought to us.  We'll recover the seat and have a comfortable and attractive chair to add to our collection.
I'm blessed to have such a talented and hard-working husband!

Rid yourself of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips...since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the NEW self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (Colossians 3:7,10)
I, TOO, am being renewed!
The ugly and sinful practices are being replaced by beauty!
And the Creator is STILL working on me.  Seems He is ALWAYS at it!

  8. Oh, wow! Your husband is definitely talented! But the two of you have to be able to see what a discarded object can become - not everyone can do that! I'm glad our God, The Restorer, can - and does!!

  9. Pat, It was a picture of a picture in a magazine - thus the poor quality - but seeing it gave me an idea of how to use the one we found! (I KNEW that for $1 I'd think of something.)

  10. Rebecca, your pieces are all so beautiful!
Your husband is very handy, he reminds me of my husband, always making dreams come true!
(You know me, I would have been happy to give those shelves a place in my home 'as is', well, maybe a little soap and water first, there is just something about worn discarded furniture with chippy paint that speaks to my heart, but your husband did those shelves proud!)
    Enjoy!

  12. Oh I came in from the garage where I am sanding down a rocker and footstool...how much fun to see the results of your husband's labor. That encourages me! I so enjoy doing this.
And I love the scripture reference...It will go back with me to the garage!

  13. I used to think I was blessed at finding
trash and having my husband turn it to
treasure, but you guys have us beat!!
And I'm still looking for a great buy
on a seconds jean jacket like you found.

  14. Eileen, I know what you mean about the chippy paint. I just don't have him convinced yet -- and to be honest, while I like it when I see it other places, it just doesn't "go" with the rest of what we have....

  15. Janette, You GO, girl! I really should do some of the hard work myself. Hope you'll show us a picture of your handiwork one of these days.

  18. You're too late! I saw all of your finds on Gary's blog! He does do awesome work Rebecca. If Jake were home all the time, I would be driving crazy with finds like that. Yesterday I found this huge, huge, perfectly healthy house plant across the ally that this business just left out by the garbage?! I couldn't figure out why, it is in desperate need of repotting. Or maybe they just thought that the "Crazy plant lady" across the ally would take it! Don't ya just love this finds!
I can't wait to see what Gary does with that tall cabinet! Love Di ♥

  21. What a perfect picture of God's redemption. He "sees' the beauty beneath the rusted, the broken, the paint-chipped facade.

I so appreciate your hubby's giftedness. Mine is equally gifted, and I'm often beneficiary of his many skills. Bless them!

  22. Hi Rebecca...that's amazing...your hubby has some skills..!!! I was really surprised by that first piece that was purchased at an estate sale for just $1. It looks just like the one in the MJF magazine. What a great job of restoring it!!!!

I purchased some really neat things at some yard sales yesterday and today...but one of the sales I visited yesterday was an estate sale...mostly junky items..but I passed on a hand-turned food mill processor. I could kick myself now...but it was slightly dirty and I didn't know if that was rust or what...and if it was still usable...Oh well...there will be other yard sales!!!

There were also a set of four free chairs there too ...but we couldn't fit them in our car, otherwise I would have taken them. That's cool..I'm happy with what I did find :) :)

I'm glad you were able to find some really nice pieces!!!! With love and attention they will shine and be beautiful again :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
