Sane and Simple

I recently added the words "keeping it sane, simple and sacred" to my blog title.  One of the ways I try to keep my life sane and simple is my care-free hair style.  I used to keep my fine, thin hair permed.  Several years ago I realized I didn't have to pay for or maintain a perm.  My life became simpler with this style -- or a variation of it.  After shampooing it, I let it dry naturally and then run a hairbrush through it.

Yesterday I went to Great Clips and paid $11 for a satisfactory, sane and simple cut.

I'm curious to know one way you keep YOUR life sane and simple!

  1. LOL. Simple I have accomplished...sane I am unfortunately still working on. I think your hair cut is nice. I also have fine hair and always wore some type of bob cut but now I wear it real short. Like you..a wash and wear style.

  2. Well, Dee...simple sometimes contributes to "sane", don't ya think?

  3. Oh, Rebecca, I used to pay $100 to keep my hair permed! I finally gave into it's natural state of straight. Then for years and years I paid to have it colored, now I'm giving into my gray locks (although they are not the beautiful white locks my Mom had or that my baby sister now has, it looks more like black with gray streaks coming in). But it does feel liberating, and I'm sure it will be much simpler to take care of.
So far I'm still keeping the style long as it is so simple to get up in the morning, run a comb through it and stick it all up in a claw clip (plus that skunk stripe is less noticeable when it's up)!
I think you're hair is a lovely style and color!
    Love to you,
    Eileen
PS ~ So happy I can access you through Facebook! One of these weekends I'm going to force my 'computer geeks' to work on fixing my blog. I miss everyone!

  5. I've done the same thing..and have very fine hair too. I used to have a high maintenance hair do that required regular trips to the salon. Done with that. I've grown it out and now it only requires to be blow dried and I'm done. I've got it to a length that I can also slick it back into a pony tale...and real time saver!
I've also cut back on the makeup. NO need to paint the old barn so much!

  6. Pat, Like you, I've cut back on makeup. I still need some mascara to give me some eye lashes and occasionally will put some color on the lips.

Eileen, I miss you in blogland but am thankful, too, for facebook! You have such beautiful hair!

    Thanks, Janette!

  7. I really like your cut, very elegant actually! What a bonus that it's low maintenance as well!:)
One way I keep my life simple is by trying not to accumulate too much...by always having a "give away" bag on the go therefore cutting down on things I really don't like, use, or need.

  8. Colleen, I really like that "give away" bag idea. I have a shelf in my laundry room that serves that purpose. It ISN'T big enough! I need to continue my efforts at simplification :)

  9. I have always cut my own hair, started in high school, after a big disappointment at a shop!
Just keeping things well organized and no unnecessary clutter provides me with more 'me time' to relax, create mail art or walk in the woods and lead a very simple life. 65 year olds deserve as much 'me time' as they can get!

  10. I used to cut my own hair, too, Wanda - especially when I wore it real short! I'm not sure how to get the shape I want in back now so reluctantly pay and try to stretch it out between cuts as far as I can.

I totally agree with your last sentence!

  11. Rebecca, in your pictures your hair does not look fine and thin, mine is and yours look much thicker than mine does. You must have more hair than I do.....I really like your cut, it suits you.....:-)Hugs

  12. Truefully Rebecca, I love your hair. I cut my own most of the time. I can never decide how I want it!

God made us beautiful, so we should just go with ti, right?

    Love Di ♥

  13. OH, I love the new look of your blog, by the way...Did you redesign it yourself?

Oh, it's funny you should mention Great Clips. I went there yesterday to have some ugly layers taken off of my hair from a previous bad hair cut. The hair stylist also added some light bangs. It's just a little bit shorter than it was before. Actually, my hair is about your length in this photograph...and she did a good job. It was only $13 and fit nicely into my budget :) :) Have a great weekend, Rebecca. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :) :)

p.s. I used to spend forever trying to curl my ahir. Finally I decided I like my natural straight/slightly wavy hair better...and I actually let my hair air dry as much as possible. It keeps the hair healthier...longer!!!

  14. Heather, Yes. I DID "redesign" my blog myself :)
The picture in the header is of the contents of a platter that sat on my counter and collected odds and ends for months and months :) I designed the header in Publisher. The template & background for rest of blog is from the "Design" feature in New Blogger.

Sounds like there are Great Clips all over the U.S. Glad she could straighten out your previous "bad" cut!

  15. Bernie, Trust me. It's thin.

Di, Sometimes I'm tempted to cut my own, too. If If it didn't need the shaping in back (where I can't see) believe me--I'd do it! As I told Wanda, I used to when I wore my hair shorter. I "cut out" around my ears, cut my bangs, etc. all the time!

  16. I simplified by going gray (stopped coloring;) and get it cut every three months instead of (colored and) cut every month. Burt's Bee colored lip balm and a homemade spritz of water/glycerin and lavender oil on my face .. mascara if I'm going out. Much more simple .. using less chemicals is helping with my skin allergies

  17. Mrs. Mac--I love it! AND I'm going to look for Burt's Bee colored lip balm! I'll bet it stays on your lips longer than lip stick (which never stays on my lips for me).

  18. Looks great! But then, I have always thought you had good hair.

  19. I love your cut! Mine is similar but I have a few layers in it, and I need a little bit of bangs. It's pretty much like my profile picture shows. For many years I went to a great stylist who I would love to keep going to, but I just cannot justify the cost. She will not accept tips, and I think it is just built into the price. She is worth it for those who can afford it. So I just go to Famous Hair and take my chances. This last time I took advantage of their 7 day guarantee and went back for a re-cut because I wasn't happy. Unlike most of the ladies who've commented here, I would be hard pressed to go to the mailbox without my face on. But I have cut way back on the amount of makeup I use. But my absolute necessaries include foundation (I have a really blotchy complexion without it), eyebrow pencil (unfortunately I pulled out a lot of my eyebrows as a nervous habit when I was younger, and I HAVE to fill in), I use the same pencil and line 1/2 way under my bottom lashes from corner to middle, a little mascara, and lipstick. I can do all this in 5 minutes and it makes all the difference in the way I feel about myself. I do it first thing in the morning and other than lipstick touchups throughout the day, I don't fuss anymore with it. I do use a good cleanser and moisturizer, morning and night. The style my hair is now is easy to manage...After shampooing and conditioning, I do use a little mousse and then blow it dry, and use the curling iron, brush it out and spray it lightly. I only have to do it about every other day unless I need a little curling iron touch up. You'll get a laugh out of this, but my mom and I color each other's hair about every 6 weeks. You'll remember that she is legally blind! We've done it for years...it costs us about $5 each time. It occurs to me that none of this might sound very sane or simple to you, but it's all part of my "routine" and it feels sane and simple to me. Right before I expect my hubby home from work, I run the brush though my hair and reapply my lipstick. That's been part of my routine for almost 34 years as well! I keep it simple by being very low key about jewelry. I usually only wear my wedding rings, my watch, and a pair of earrings. Now you know more about me than you ever wanted to!
