The Circle of Life

(not actually "us")
Almost 60 years ago, a young mother and her firstborn were involved in a serious wreck.  The truck driver in the other vehicle was killed.  The young mother reached down to retrieve the baby who had fallen onto the floor of the vehicle, unharmed.  In doing so, the woman tore a deep gash in her arm as it caught on the stick remaining of the steering wheel (which had broken off).  A young farmer ran out to the wreck and held the infant in his arm until help arrived.

A few years later, the young family moved out of state where the husband/father began a college education.  About 20 years later, that baby returned to live in Kansas where the wreck occurred.-- a young mother herself.  Among her circle of friends was a wonderfully creative, bubbly, sweet young mother.  They were part of a Bible study, a group of friends eager to be godly homemakers.  They shared their stories, their skills, their tears, laughter, prayers, and a few secrets!

Too soon, the baby/young mother moved east.  As years passed, she lost touch with the group of friends back in Kansas.  Her children grew up, left home, married and had children themselves.  Among other things, the woman became a blogger.

One day while "blog surfing" her eyes fell upon the name "Linda Stubbs" in a comment section!  Could it be Linda, the sweet, bubbly, creative,  young homemaker in Kansas?  A quick click to Linda's blog, Prairie Flower Farm, removed all doubt!  With great excitement, contact was established just last week.

Yesterday, the now 61 year old baby/young mother/grandmother went to visit HER father and  mother (the original young mother who was involved in the wreck).  Linda's name came up, and the 61 year old asked her 83 year old father, "Dad, did you know the Stubbs?"

A smile came over his face.  "As a matter of fact, it was a Stubbs who came out and held YOU in his arms until help came!"  The elderly couple reminisced, reconstructing the details of that event so long ago for ME, their firstborn.

That's right!  I was the baby in that accident.
The man who held me was Linda's father-in-law!
All these years!  I had NO idea! I get goose-bumps just thinking about it!

"All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."
Psalm 139:16

  1. Oh, my goodness! This is absolutely amazing! We have an awesome God who brings us back around to friends we've lost touch with. And then often, as you've discovered, there is even a second connection (to Linda's father).

What an awesome experience for you!

I will never leave you, nor forsake you...we are all bound together in His love :)

  4. Oh Becky how precious!!! God is so sovereign is He not? Phil has been so touched. He just read your post and can hardly speak! Thank you for blessings our family sweet Becky. Before Phil daddy died we cared for him for 4 years. We got him up at 6:30 and to bed at 11. He had to watch the evening news. We had 3 jobs going, our farm, our little business and Grandpa Jack's farm. We thought we wouldn't make it some days. We also had the girls that adored their Grandpa. Hard times. I remember one morning our son Josh came to Grandpa;s as Phil and I were there to get him up. Phil was kneeling to put on his Daddy's socks and shoes. I looked at Josh and said, "Don't ever forget this picture. It is one of his Daddy, being Jesus to his Daddy. At the time Josh was living a sinful life. God is so good Becky. We have prayed so for our children. God has brought them all back home.

Would you mind if I copied your story and put it on my blog? It is a picture of God weaving golden threads through out our lives. You are right gold is better!
    Love you sweet friend, Linda
So glad you remember me as bubbly momma. Heehee

  5. I weep with such joy! Because my family moved so frequently, I never have felt rooted. In fact, I don't have a lot of childhood memories (for whatever reason).

I have said, "My roots are in God's love", and they are. But God is graciously restoring some of the roots I have always felt I was missing in THIS life!

    He is SO awesome.

  6. Wow -- this gives me chills and tears! And I thought our reconnection was remarkable. You are so right -- God is blessing you in giving back some elements of what you were missing. But still just a little taste of the REAL reconnections someday . . . I'm glad to meet someone else who knows you as "Becky" -- as I recently found out, we know we go way back!

  8. Kathy, Our reconnection WAS remarkable! This one just went back a bit further. Beyond what an ordinary person COULD remember on their own. And you're right about the REAL reconnections yet to come.

  9. Rebecca, I have what I call "the gift of tears" LOL and they started to flow when I read this. As amazing as it all is...I think the sweetest thing is that God has blessed you by filling in some of the blanks. I was just thinking this morning how truly "personal" a God He is! I'm so glad you shared this. You have sure blessed many by doing so!

  11. Eileen, I'm glad someone else knows what I mean when I say "goose bumps". I don't know what else to call them??! Is there another name for 'em?

  12. "Wildlife", God-incidence is a term I need to write down and remember. It certainly fits this stream of events (and many others).

  23. Google uses my camp nickname and since we're still living here at a Christian camp after 23 years I guess it fits. My hubby is associate director meaning he does a little bit of everything. :o)

Found your blog(s) via Linda's Prairie Flower Farm post. Your story is incredible!

Thanks for the inspiring words of truth and such wonderful music. Both you & Linda have a gift of sharing Jesus in everyday ways. I will visit again to be encouraged once again by your loveliness. Thanks for sharing words & pictures.

    Blessings to you, Corrine
