"If ever there was a batch of believers that made doing life together an art form, this would be that batch."
It was this quote that jumped off the screen at me when I was at Sassy Granny's blog the other day. I want very much to be part of THAT KIND of a "batch"! I would love for this to be a statement that is true of the small church I belong with these days. I'm really thinking about the three phrases: batch of believers, doing life together, and art form. I want to do all I can to make the Home Connections* I participate in that kind of a "batch"!
We got another step closer to doing life together last Saturday at Darrell and Phyllis' lake place. A few other hands and feet were on deck--just not visible in this picture. Great food and conversation and a pontoon ride around the lake and channels were highlights of our afternoon.
*Home Connections is just the way we designate small groups in our church. Each one tries to meet at least every two weeks. We've kind of taken a summer break from that schedule, but starting this fall, I'm praying for a burst of enthusiasm for doing life together.
How about you? What kind of "batch" do YOU belong to? Is your life together an "art form" yet?
We belong to a small group, all members of our church. We number 6 couples at the present time and we have been together for years. In many ways, we are closer than family. We meet about twice a month for prayer, study, sharing, fellowship, and food. We care for each other as we navigate the storms of life and also the joys of life. Any of us could call another at any time of the day or night in an emergency. We constantly are in touch by email or phone if there is a need for help or prayer. Being in this group is an amazing gift, and we don't take that lightly.
ReplyDeleteI like that concept - being part of a batch of believers doing life together! It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "We really do need each other." (Reuben Welch, who wrote a book with the same title)
ReplyDeleteWell the only batch that I am a part of is my immediate family! I think that I've almost gotten it down to an art form except that Katie keeps spattering colors where they don't belong right now! So we have not yet perfected our art!
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
BTW, that picture reminded me of a bunch of teens on a boat getting ready for a wild ride!
Be patient, Diana! It takes time to produce a masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteRe. "the bunch of teens....wild ride"--That's why I didn't include the heads! I assure you, the ride WASN'T wild--just very, very HOT.
I loved her post on that also...not here, right now. We are in a very large church...with type "A" people, meaning everyone is too busy. It takes at least two months out to get together, then something usually comes up. I have had this in the past, but it seems life is about all most can handle at this stage in life.
ReplyDeleteI just rest in that when the Lord is ready for us to be part of a group again He will bring our lives and hearts together.
Blessing on your new group
Rebecca...I LOVE the photo!! I think it looks very artistic!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you had a good time...and that you have close friends with which to share fun times!!!
One of my "batch of believers" also happens to be family and we certainly "did life together" the last 2 days in Springfield, Illinois--sight-seeing, dining and just laughing, talking and having fun. I think we just about have it to an art form.
ReplyDeleteDonna, Good for YOU! Sounds like a masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteJanette, Large church/Type A doesn't lend itself to "batches" - but small churches have their share of busy people, too. I think THAT'S the problem....People have difficulty prioritizing and putting the "urgent" aside for the "important". Praying with you and FOR you as I do MY part to contribute to a few batches here.
Oh so true! Something I wish we saw MORE of in the body of Christ.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!! Love the photo and even more the fellowship!!
I like your photo...I agree with teachers pet...it is artsy.Hmmm, I am not sure how to answer your question...I would have to say I am in batch transition. With Franks illness and our move.I do not get out as much in a group. I have a ladys bible study group I enjoy, and my art guild group, which may cover the art form, and my best friend of 50 years to wander back roads with. I think I will also include my blog friends and prayer partners that I meet with on line and in the spirit.
