Miles To Go Before I Sleep

At my ripe age, I still have much to learn! I'm so aware of my weaknesses and wonder if they will be with me for life!  Recent experiences have caused me to face the fact that I have "miles to go before" I know...

How to observe and draw the right conclusions;
  how to care without conflict;
  how to love without fear;
  how to mentor without meddling.
How to be and let be;
  how to support without interfering;
  how to embrace technology without letting go of the personal touch;
  how to understand without judging.
How to separate values from trends;
  how to visit without intruding;
  how to help without building dependency;
  how to communicate without prejudice.
(These are just a FEW of my MANY miles!)

"Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  (Joshua 1:9)

    March on we must...and march on we will with increasing wisdom, day by day - with God's help.

  8. Diana, And for me it's not so much that I sit around "thinking" about ways to improve....I just run smack into them when I'm not even trying!

  9. Rebecca: It's not just about learning, it's about the ongoing life of repentance. The holiest people are the most aware of their shortcomings. We all have miles to go. Thanks for sharing your grapplings with this daunting truth. Ginni

  12. Ginni - So true--about repentance! I haven't truly "learned" or come to "know" until the desired behavior have become both my goal and my practice.

  13. This is what makes you most precious to me... your willingness to admit those "miles to go" and then to walk them.

    Keep to it...

  14. I love that Robert Frost poem...

    I've been a bit discouraged lately at realizing how many miles I need to go yet...

    but we had a very encouraging sermon this morning that has driven me to prayer, and that's a good thing.

    This was your usual honest self-reflection Rebecca which speaks to so many of us! Thanks for sharing these thoughts.
