From a Coffee Shop in Franklin

As we traveled in rain yesterday to our North Carolina destination, I completed reading this book - a compilation of journal entries by a gifted author.  I especially appreciated the fact that she wrote honestly and skillfully about many of the passages of life that I am now experiencing.  Her ability to create word pictures is worthy of note. Writing now in a coffee shop while I wait for thrift stores to open, I realize I don't have my journal with quotes in it.  I would love to share a few.  I actually would have copied half the book if I had tried to jot down everything that seemed profound as I read it!
We stopped in Hendersonville, North Carolina where my husband photographed me with this wood carving in front of a tobacco shop (next to the Sports Bar where my husband sipped iced tea and watched Tiger Woods tee off while I window shopped).

Later we headed toward our destination where my brother and sister-in-law took us on an evening walk in the Great Smokey National Park.  On our way there, we saw a pileated woodpecker!  I'm not sure, but I think it is the first one I've ever seen in nature.  What a treat.  Of course, I'd left my cell phone/camera behind.

  1. I had NO idea you were coming this close to me. I am in Richmond, Va. I had the privilege of hearing Phyllis Theroux speak last month at our writers meeting. She actually lives in Ashland, Virginia. I bought her book and read it in two sittings. It is one of the best books I have ever written. She is as genuine in person as she is in the book. Hope you guys have an awesome time in the Smokey's. I am a little envious. I LOVE to go to the mountains!

I love your Passion quote on your sidebar, especially, "...Christ will be honored...whether by life or by death..."

  7. I am writing the name of that book down. I haven't been in a reading mood lately but that one sounds good. I actually read more in the summer months as I like to sit outside and read. Your trip sounds wonderful so far Rebecca. I am glad that you have this opportunity to enjoy it with Gary. That is a blessing. Love Di ♥
P.S. I have never heard of a Pileated Woodpecker?

  8. Thanks for sharing about more of your journeys. I love the pictures you have posted so far. It's the kind of trip I hope to someday have, when I visit my sister again who lives in Virginia.

I especially love this book you shared about. I'll take note of the title and hope to order a copy for myself.

You share on things that I also like... what amazes me is that we are from opposite sides of the globe, and raised in different cultures, but there are many things we have in common. Isn't that amazing?

  12. Wow! A pileated woodpecker! That is so fun. We saw a pileated woodpecker a couple of times in Vancouver when Andy and Amy lived there. One scared us half to death the first time because it flew right over our heads and it was huge.

What a great vacation you are having. I am glad for you.
