'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Written in 1882 by Louisa M. R. Stead, this has been one of my favorite gospel songs. A newer version begins with almost identical words. Currently it (the newer one) is the first song on my playlist, and you may be hearing it as you read this!
Mostly, I want to cease from "sin and self" and take "life and rest, and joy and peace from my Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend!

1) ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

2) Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

3) Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

4) I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

  1. Beautiful!

    And I have noticed that the times I do place complete trust in the Lord that a beautiful peace comes over me and all anxiety ceases to exist. And now that I find it easy to turn certain problems and situations over to His Care, I'm hoping I can make the leap to turn my life over to Him.
    I don't know exactly what holds me back from completely surrendering, but I do hold back.

    Love to you,
    Eileen

  4. This has always been a favorite of mine as well. The one that's playing on your list right now has been so comforting to me at various times in my life. "When I don't understand, when I can't see His hand, I can trust His heart."
