"Merry Christmas from your South Scipio Church Family" reads the gift tag. Individual candy canes will be handed out to all the children after their Christmas program this Sunday morning. (Can you believe the variety that is available!?)
The gifts are simple and inexpensive this year.
Does YOUR church or parish distribute gifts to the children? Is there a traditional gift, or what types of gifts have been given in the past?
Such a nice idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the candy cane idea ~ maybe spruce them up with a ribbon and a card that tells the candy cane story. This time of year I always keep candy canes to give to the waiters when we eat out. I like to tie a poinsetta ect. on them. They always bing a smile to a tired waiter. My church leaves it up to the individual Sunday school classes to give out treats.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Our sunday school classes take an entire family and help that family for the holidays (food, clothing, a few toys, etc.).
ReplyDeleteBlessings, andrea
Our Church doesn't give gifts for Christmas to the children, but the parish school gives little nativity scenes to the school children.
ReplyDeleteOur Church does ask you to bring your Baby Jesus from your Nativity Scene to be Blessed the Sunday before Christmas and then they distribute hay from the big Church Nativity for you to put in your own Nativity. The children seem to all enjoy that.
Take care and I hope you are feeling better. I read in your comments to others that you haven't been feeling well. I've been thinking of you and you've been in my prayers.
Love to you!, Eileen
Our church gives gifts to every child...and the wonder and excitement in their eyes is incredible. We have candy canes hanging on a Christmas tree (in our fellowship hall) with each child's name on a cane. We take as many canes as we would like and buy a gift for the child and wrap it and put it under the tree in the fellowship hall. There are always extra gifts for visitors and family member's children who attend. No one goes away without a gift....but most importantly learning about the best gift of all: our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We choose tags from a tree and play Santa for that child.....I always support a family in need for Christmas or have for the past 10 years, this includes groceries, gifts and decorating and I love doing this. I remember one lady only wanted socks and everything else was to go to her children....it made me cry but Santa was very good to her as well that year......:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteWe have done several different things each year. One year we had fresh baked cookies. Another little stockings with candies, cookies and hot chocolate. And another year they each received a Christmas box with an ornament, chocolate pretzels and candy. Usually though every year there is a big bowl of candy canes for everyone. And yes I will eat the candy canes!

There have been various gifts, but the one that touched me the most was when they handed out brown paper lunch sacks, in each was an orange, a candy bar and a bible verse and a tiny plastic cross. It was reminicent of the pastors childhood. The children loved it!
ReplyDeleteJackie, What a lovely idea! I like it!
ReplyDeletePat, I kind of remember getting each of those gifts at one time or another as a child. I also remember getting some "bulk" chocolate candies...I always liked them. I have a small nativity set that lights up. (When you mentioned the cross, it made me think of the nativity set...)
ReplyDeleteDiana, Great ideas! Last year, a man in our church made small angel ornaments out of an old glass window that used to be in the church. They were wonderful! The year before that, we gave store-bought ornaments.
ReplyDeleteEileen, I think the idea of sending home some hay from the church nativity scene to be placed in the home nativity sets is very sweet....
ReplyDeleteBernie, The family that "gets" you for their Santa is certainly in for a treat. I have no doubt about that! I know God gives you a special and personal joy for bringing joy to others the way you do.
