What Do These Stones Mean?

Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder...to serve as a sign among you.  In the future, when your children ask you, "What do these stones mean?" tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord....  (Joshua 4:6-7)

Part of a renaissance includes the resurgence of artistic vigor.  One of the ways it shows itself in MY case is on the canvas of our yard and garden.  Young friends of ours were wanting to get rid of these rocks and stones.  We were more than happy to take them off their hands!

Using the small wheel barrel that was being trashed by someone disenchanted with the rust inside, I plan to transport the largest rocks for decoration in a flower bed, the medium-sized rocks to add to a rock border, and the smaller ones to fill in various spots around the yard.

"What do these stones mean?"  God has given me dreams to dream, strength to work, and supplies with which to bring my dreams to fruition.  I MUST be sure to tell my children!

  1. OOOoooh...I just love this, Rebecca as I am all for repurposing and reusing and saving the planet. Those stones/rocks are gorgeous and I would love to have them in my yard too...in fact, we have gathered rocks from other parts of our yard to use as borders.

Hopefully you will be able to give us pictures too.

    blessings and happy hugs,

  3. I love the idea of found objects being the tools to dream dreams, and the strength to work, it makes you realize that everything is a Gift from God.
Even little things can bring us the pleasure of hope and dreams.

Recently a friend said if we don't have freedom we don't have anything, but I disagreed, I said if we don't have hopes and dreams we don't have anything, for even if your freedoms are taken away, if you have the hope and the dream of those freedoms being given back to you one day you are not lost, it's when that hope dies you have nothing. Even the imprisoned can have a free spirit with Faith. When you have nothing to look forward to you're done.

Beautiful to read how you appreciate God's Gifts.
    Have fun with them! Enjoy!
    All the best,
    Eileen

  4. We used stones as we moved from a smaller church to our newer sanctuary.....symbols of 'Crossing Over Jordon"...each of us signed a smooth stone, and they were used in the foundation of our new church...very meaningful to us. I love your post today...

  7. DEE...I am loathe to give tips because I feel my tastes are "funkier" than most people would want to live with :) I have fun, but I know I'm a little weird.

  8. Oh dear Rebecca,

You are not weird...you are just an "artistic spirit" ;)

What a blessing ~ the Lord has gifted us with so much and we are able to be creative with the imagination HE has given us!

    A great post!

  11. I love what it says about being encouraged and an encourager over your comments...how did you do that? I'm not very computer savvy..so it takes me a while to figure things out sometimes. It sounds like you are going to be busy laying those stones...I love stones like that..very pretty! I too, would love to see your "after" pictures.
    Have a very Happy Weekend!
    Love, Jerelene

  12. Hi Rebecca! I love rock/stone beds/accents to gardens and more importantly how you accepted them from someone who was "cleaning up." Great example of community. At my church we have a retreat every year called Women's Cornerstone. It's based on this verse: Jesus said: "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. . . " (Matthew 21:42). Kind of goes along with that saying, "God don't make no junk!" I like your renaisssance, Rebecca. Blessings, Margaret
