My Secret Life as a Red Hatter

Every second Tuesday of the month, I don a purple outfit and top it with a red hat to go out to eat with 19 other women. My invitation came at the hands of a piano student who spoke enthusiastically about her Red Hat Club. I expressed an interest, and the next thing I knew I was invited to attend my first meeting. This Tuesday, our "queen" (the woman standing) was conducting her last meeting. The responsibility will pass to her friend seated at her left. Next month we will no longer be officially a Red Hat Club. With rising dues required by the national organization, we have decided to continue our outings without the connection to the official organization. I will be hosting our meeting in September (the selection of restaurant is passed around the membership from month to month.) I'm keeping it in town and have invited the ladies to our home and garden for dessert and coffee to follow the meal.
A friend loves at all times, and a (sister) is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17
I'm thankful for the wider circle of friendships I have enjoyed as a result of being a Red Hatter.

  1. By keeping it in town, do you mean the 'Cafe'? Maybe I'll have crash your party! What a nice group, and too bad that national organizations have to have so many rules and regs--and money obligations. Have a blessed day.

  2. What a blessing to be involved with a great group of women. It is too bad the cost of dues has caused you to leave the original organization, but with commitment and love, you all have overcome and continued to enjoy each other's company. Have loads of fun in September!

  3. You can have just as much fun and sharing without the official connection and obligations. I meet with 8-12 friends from grade school days once a month for a 2-3 hour breakfast...this is our 14th year of getting together...it started off every 6 mos.
We give presents on birthdays too...great fun just getting together.

  4. The first time I saw this group was in Disney World! A whole group of women dressed in purple and donning red hats were getting off a big bus and checking into the Animal Kingdom Lodge! And when we got home from vacation I looked them up online and sure enough there they were, the Red Hat Organization! And ever since then I've been seeing and hearing about them, and now you are blogging about them and also a member! Wow!
Enjoy your new-found friends! God Bless!
    All the best,
    Eileen

  5. Hello Rebecca, I think it very important that we have a connection with our lady friends. They will be there for you, support you, laugh with you, just so many things we do for and with each other.
I love men as well, but other than our husbands, men do not feel comfortable doing and supporting other woman. It is what it is and I am okay with that, but I am so happy you have lady friends in your life....so very important...Have a great day my friend...Hugs

  7. Hi Rebecca,
I think it's a wonderful group and it sounds like so much fun. We have a fellowship commitee at our church in which I am a member of. We usually go out to lunch after our meeting and we just laugh and laugh!
It is great and special to have friends that you can talk to and be silly with! Just like our village in blogland! Love Di

  8. Will you still wear purple? We have a few groups around here and i love to hear them laugh and see their smiles when i see them out and about. I didn't realize their was a fee.I am glad you guys are still going to stay together as a group. To answer the train question from my blog. Durand Mich. was where all the trains were, along with thousands of people, so we took the kids to Alma Mich. which is 10 min. from me, and where the train stopped to drop off and pick up the people who bought tickets to ride the train. The grands loved it and got their pictures taken with one of the engineers. A good day.

  10. Hi Rebecca,Thank you for your observation on my doodles. If they can provoke feelings and thoughts then i guess i will have to start calling them art :) i thought i drew eyes closed becuse i am not good at drawing them open...but now...i am sure there is a meaning behind them. As i look at them myself, the closed eyes are kind of my art style. I have a journal that i express my feelings in instead of having a written journal. I tend to draw a lot of tears in that journal. It is not easy for me to cry...especially since Frank got sick. Sorry this is so long. It touched my heart that you felt a feeling in a doodle of mine. I would love to send you one as a gift. There are a few others on my blog that i want to gift.. If you would like to have one please e-mail me an address. deelarichards@yahoo.com I would love for some of my doodles to have a home. Dee
