Enough Said

"Better to write for yourself and have no public,
than to write for the public and have no self."
(Cyril Connolly)
I believe I could substitute just about any activity that I can imagine for the word "write" and the statement would still be accurate. And taking it one step further, God's Word says, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24).

  1. Nice reminder.
I always think about that Bible quote especially for those out in the 'work force', sometimes it's hard to put your heart into your work for a big company that is not treating it's workers very nice, but if you think of it as putting in a day's work for the Lord, well, I think you'd put your heart and soul into it.
I think it's easier for those of us who service our families, you're always happy to do for them and expect no monetary return.
But it's a good reminder even for us, as I will keep it in mind next time I am doing a task I don't much care for.

And the first quote is a good way to go through life with all activities as you say!
    Nice post!

  2. Oh my dearest friend, this is so true! When you do for the public...you know longer know yourself. You become lost and disoriented.

Thank you dear friend for the quote.

  3. To thine own self be true!...I try to instill in my grandchildren to do what they know is right, and not just what someone tells them to do!

  4. Exactly! Well said. It is so easy for me to become distracted and to forget that my focus must be on Christ alone! Thanks for the reminder. Whew!

  5. It is our outlook that counts, the giving up of self to do what God directs us to do. This attitude allows even unpleasant tasks to be palatable if we are doing them to glorify our Heavenly Father.

  10. Thanks for the reminder. I was teaching our S.S. class today; I was nervous until I realized, it's not about me, It's about the Lord. Give Him all glory and praise.

  11. Well put indeed! What freedom I find when I'm able to say "it's not about me" How embarrassed I am the times I've realized I tried to make it all about me! That's when I'm reminded what a gift grace is! Thanks for the reminder!
