First, though, we'lll celebrate the Heavenly Father at our church. There will be a slide show featuring the "Dads at SSUBC". There will be a few inexpensive gifts awarded to dads in several categories. There will be a sermon titled "Fatherhood: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" based on Gideon who had 71 sons and who knows how many daughters! (see Judges 9:5)
Romans 8:15-17 tells me: "I have received the Spirit of adoption as sons (daughters), by which I cry, 'Abba! Father!' The Spirit himself bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God, and if a child, then an heir --heir of God and fellow heir with Christ, provided I suffer with him in order that I may also be glorified with him."
I want to grow in my awareness and understanding of my relationship with Abba. One day, my earthly father will leave us (unless Jesus returns first). But Abba will never leave or forsake me! I also read that last provision of Romans 8:17 - "provided I suffer with him..." and know that I have a lot to learn about that, too!
Ah Rebecca it sounds like a very nice and peaceful Fathers Day that you have planned. We sort of celebrated ours yesterday as my husband has to leave for work this afternoon. Hope your day is as sweet as you are!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy today with your family Rebecca!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a wonderful day! I hope you all enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like your Dad's choice of Pizza Hut very much! Kids and grown-ups alike can enjoy ~ it's all-inclusive, how nice of your Dad to choose it. He sounds like my kind of guy!
Wishing your father the best Father's Day ever my friend. He sounds like a very thoughtful person to choose a place that all can enjoy.
ReplyDelete.......:-) Hugs
So nice to let the dad choose the restaurant instead of saying this is where we will go...sometimes we forget and do this type of "imposing" with our Heavenly Father.
ReplyDeleteMay you be blessed with a wonderful day!
blessings and hugs,
marcy
You have a great earthly father and should feel very fortunate to have your Godly parents. I, too, have a long way to go to share in the sufferings of my Heavenly Father, Abba. Donna
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you who shared my joy at being able to spend yet another day with my father. Turns out Pizza Hut was letting fathers eat free with the purchase of another buffet! My father has lived a life of service and ministry, loved my mother with great devotion, and been generous with his time and resources in encouraging each of us children. His wisdom continues to enrich our entire family.
ReplyDeleteI love your family photo--but I certainly cannot figure out who everyone is, I recognize a few. Your earthly father has blessed our family over and over and over! We are so glad that he listened to God's call, gave up his profession and went to seminary in answer to God's call. You have a rich and wonderful godly heritage!
ReplyDeleteSounds like it will be a wonderful day my friend.
