We enjoyed a late game of Upwords last night. It is our favorite word game - similar to Scrabble, but the letters don't have different values AND you can put letters on top of each other (up to 5). Our practice is to add our two individual scores together and record anything over 500 points on the top of the sheet of instructions. Last night was a "548 point" game! (A click on the picture shows 500+ scores for the past 2 years. I know we recorded them somewhere before that, too.)
We've bought Upwords games at garage sales or thrift stores for each of our children. (Don't know if they ever get them out or not. It's kind of a stage-of-life thing, I think.)

I love Upwards! And Scrabble!
ReplyDeleteAnd have you ever tried Boggle? That's lots of fun too!
Enjoy!
I love playing board games.
ReplyDeleteI love Scrabble so I am sure I would love Upwards as well. Board games are fun.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day my friend.....:-) Hugs
Hi Rebecca! Jake and I used to play upwords when the kids were at home and also a lot of scrabble. We still play trivial pursuit a lot and dominoes. I love dominoes! We used to play monopoly a lot with Katie but she doesn't like boaed games anymore. So many more we played now that think of it! Jake and I still play but I miss when the kids would play with us!
ReplyDeleteScrabble, Boggle, Dominoes - Mexican Train Dominoes??? We often play that with my parents...where you put a marker on your track if you can't lay, etc. We have several card games we like to play, too. Canadian Salad is one we learned when we were at camp. We've taught a lot of people that game...and they teach others...and they teach others :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteUntil today I have not heard of upwards I will have to check with the grandkids as they love to play board games. Hopefully they will be visiting this summer!
I also enjoyed your last post, I am so glad to learn these things about you.
Enjoy your weekend.
Congratulation on reaching your goals. If I could I would send fireworks into the sky. That is such a great accomplishment. I have been losing to, but not as fast as I want to.Hopefully in a year I can tell you have reached my goal.

Oh Rebecca when you mentioned Mexican train dominoes, you made me think of this sweet woman at our church that I loved. She reminded me so much of my grandmother. She passed last year and I miss her dearly. She would always talk about Mexican train dominoes as I never had heard of it. She was going to show me how but we never did get the chance. I forgot all about it until you mentioned the game. One day Jake and I will learn to play!
ReplyDeleteI could teach you the M.T. game as I know it. I think there are different versions depending on which part of Florida you vacation in!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mexicantrainrulesandstrategies.com contains the CLOSEST instructions to the game we play. I now see that there are many, many variations!
