Ten Things About Myself

Here's for both Lady M and Marcy who in the past few days have reached out to me with a challenge to list 10 honest things about myself. I am a relatively newcomer to the world of Christian women bloggers, so I ask for grace and understanding as I attempt to rise to this challenge.
  1. The oldest of 4 children raised in a pastor's home, I turned 60 on my Christmas 2008 birthday.
  2. I met my husband of 38 years at Sterling College in Kansas where I completed a degree in elementary education after receiving a diploma in Christian Education from Moody Bible Institute.
  3. I enjoy silence and solitude and am sometimes selfish in this enjoyment. I also enjoy good discusson and stimulating conversation.
  4. Though I wrote a book several years ago titled "The Beauty of a Disciplined Life" (Victor Books, out of print), I struggle in the area of discipline daily.
  5. I owe a great debt to Donna and Brenda who took the time to teach me the basics of blogging and set me on the path to many friendships and much inspiration and encouragement.
  6. My "obsession" with thrift store shopping has been tempered (but not replaced) by maintaining 4 blogs.
  7. While learning to be content with what I have, I never feel I have "arrived" when it comes to knowing Christ! But one thing I do...I press on to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
  8. I have much to learn about parenting adult children (3 plus 3 spouses)and being a long-distant grandmother of 8.
  9. I love and treasure God's Word. I'm so thankful for having been taught it in my childhood, youth, and college years as well as many great hymns of the church. The Word of God continues to unfold in my life and mind daily as I am taught by God's Holy Spirit and godly men and women of faith.
  10. I achieved a weight goal THIS VERY MORNING that has eluded me for over a year! (See details at Power, Love, and Self-control)
There is obviously much more about myself I could share, but mostly I am a woman covered by God's grace. So many flaws and so much sin is covered that I cannot possibly comprehend its extent!

  1. Just so you know Rebecca, I do enjoy reading your blog very much! I'm glad the award was passed on to you and it is amazing to me all of the things that we all have in common! I too love thrift shopping. I could go everyday. It's like being on a treasure hunt isn't it?

  2. You all humble me. You all have such wonderful, accomplished, positive things to share about your lives.
If someone such as yourself feels you still have a ways to go, well, I can't even see the finish line.
I'm not trying to be 'fake' self-effacing here, it's just eye-opening to take a good, hard, cold look at yourself and your life, especially when comparing your life to the lives of others.

Congratulations on reaching your goal weight! That's something I've been struggling with for years.
    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Dear, dear Eileen - this is one of the dangers of blogging, I fear. That we compare ourselves to the lives of others and come out negatively OR try to make ourselves appear positively to others. I know what you mean about not wanting to be "fake self-effacing". It takes a lot of faith for me to see the finish line. And that faith is not my own. It, too, comes by the grace of God.

  4. Great sharing and caring (gosh...the poet in me refuses to stay locked up).

Now, I'm humbled again by your saying that I am your mentor! MY strongest prayer has always been that in some way I can bring others closer to Him and my biggest fear is to do something that might separate them from Him, even though our love for Him should never be based on what others do or fail to do.

It's human nature to compare, but it is an unfair way of doing anything as we are EACH precious in our own way and in His sight!

    blessings and hugs,

    marcy

  5. Congratulations Rebecca, well deserved my friend. I so enjoy your blog and I will pop over to your other ones. I am on a quest to reach a weight goal and I am determined to reach it. Never compare yourself with others, we are all children of God and he loves us all. I think we are all unique.
    Have a great day....:-) hugs
